A meme about meme

September 12, 2011 by Kim Woodward

So I was tagged by two of my favorite blogger friends in the past few weeks – Emily at imperfect and Shannon at Shannanigans. And while I often forget to take part in these type of tags, I couldn’t say no to these gals.

(I know they really don’t care. But still.)

So, this is my own meme post.

What this is about:
To unite bloggers (from all sectors) in a joint endeavor to share lessons learned and create a bank of long but not forgotten blog posts that deserve to see the light of day again.

Rules:
1) Blogger is nominated to take part
2) Blogger publishes his/her 7 links on his/her blog – 1 link for each category.
– Your most beautiful post
– Your most popular post
– Your most controversial post
– Your most helpful post
– A post whose success surprised you
– A post you feel didn’t got the attention it deserved
– The post that you are most proud of
3) Blogger nominates up to 5 more bloggers to take part.
4) These bloggers publish their 7 links and nominate another 5 more bloggers
5) And so it goes on!
6) The site Trip Base be sharing the best posts from participating bloggers on their blog and everyday on Facebook and Twitter at #My7Links

My most beautiful post
Well, I guess it depends how you define beauty. I really loved all the images we took on our recent road trip in the Pacific Northwest. Especially Oregon… so I guess I’ll choose that.

My most popular post
The post about our first home renovation is probably one of the most popular. This is where I shared the progress of all the rooms in our first home, from start to finish. It’s also one of my personal favorites – it’s fun to see all the work we did to make that fugly little house a home.

My most controversial post
I don’t think we have a lot of controversy on our corner of the Internet. But, it would probably be the Buying American Made post. That earned me a few Anonymous commenters who like to point out everything we own that isn’t American made. I guess they didn’t read the full post. Which is kind of always the case, isn’t it? (People spouting out their mouths without actually bothering to read the entirety of what they are judging.) But who would have thought people would be so judgmental about attempting to buy things Made in America?

My most helpful post
I think our board and batten post was helpful. There are lots of board and batten tutorials out there, but many use the existing wall as the “board” since many people have smooth walls. I find it helpful to see how others do it when we start a project, so I hope this is helpful for other people with textured walls. And this still drives a lot of traffic and comments to this little blog. Plus, it’s one of our biggest transformations with one project.

A post whose success surprised me
The post about paint swatches for our new house is continuously one of the most-viewed posts. It’s relatively crazy to me, but I think it’s because people Google paint names to seem them within a room. Heck, I do it, too.

Note to self: Add a paint color to every post.

A post I feel didn’t got the attention it deserved
Well, I would say none of my posts from the year 2008 were read very much. (Except by our parents, who are our biggest fans.) Not that I really blame anyone, that was 915 posts ago. And the photos are pretty horrible.

But, in 2008, I really liked the post sharing the Top 10 signs renovations are underway. I think most renovators can relate.

And I get a lot of questions about our window art. The info for that is also a post from 2008.

The post that I am most proud of
I’m double-dipping on this one. I really love the post about our first renovation and am proud to see it all in one place. It makes me smile to see all the befores and afters.

And that is a lot of NewlyWoodwards in one post. The good and bad. If you made it through that, you get an imaginary gold star. And if you go read all the posts, you get an imaginary cookie.

And here are a few folks I’d like to hear from:
Rachel at Maybe Matilda
Michelle at Decor and the Dog
Rita at Fighting off Frumpy
Claire at A Peachtree City Life
Joi at Nuestra Vida Dulce

I’m thinking about writing something controversial before I do this post…any ideas?

I love everything you write. Because I love everything you do. I’m kind of a Kim stalker.

Fun post! I have to agree with you about early posts–those are some of the ones that we work the hardest on, trying to get readers, but it’s a double edged sword b/c traffic is low!

yay, i liked reliving these! i said the same thing in my post – must.add.paint.color.to.titles – total traffic driver 🙂

Ooooh! I am so excited! I don’t participate in a lot of memes but I really like this one. 🙂 I’m off to do it now – I was looking for a good topic for today, anyway!!
