Well, I’ve been consistently stalking the local Marshall’s and TJ Maxx looking for the pair to my pretty glass lamp I found a month or so ago.
(Sigh.)
To no avail.
But, on my last trip, there were some pretty gold and mercury-glass numbers that caught my eye. While not exactly like the original glass beauty, I liked them.
And I really liked the gold and glass.
I walked away from them (and took a detour through the baby girl clothes for Addy). Then, I realized that I couldn’t walk away without these new gold pretties. So, I bit the bullet and brought them home.
And wouldn’t you know it, they look really nice together in our master bedroom.
How have I lived without lamps in the bedroom? I’ve really gotten used to reading in bed with light. So nice!
And, while I was originally going to take the other lamp back, I just couldn’t do it. It’s like taking in an orphan. I can’t just send her back. It’s in the extra bedroom now. I think she looks nice there.
I’m becoming a downright lamp diva. Who would have thought that a short time ago, I only had 2 lamps in the entire house.
I’m up to 6 lamps in the house now. I know Jennifer at The Newlywed Diaries will be proud. (Check out her follow-up post about lamps.)
And while I was in lamp euphoria, I also put some special rings on display. I’ve been trying to find a way to show off our class rings. But, you know, at some point you just have to do something.
When Ryan gave me his ring in high school, I wore it for a while on a chain. How very “Happy Days” of me, no? Then the two rings hung from my rearview mirror on a chain for several years in high school and college.
If you rode in my Cutlass Calais or my Grand Prix, you likely saw these rings.
But, for a while now, they’ve just sat in a ring box.
And now I get to see them in the extra bedroom every morning while getting ready. So much better.
A few questions for you:
How many lamps do you have in your house?
What do you think of our new additions?
Any ideas for a class ring display?

I love that glass lamp! I hate when I pass something up at TJ Maxx. The next time I go back it’s always gone!
Ummmm… pretty sure I have your lamps twin. I bought it at Goodwill on Saturday. Too bad you’re not in Michigan!
The lamps look fantastic. I really like them! Shiny and interesting! I have four real lamps and maybe… um… 3 desk lamps in my home.
The rings are so sweet and meaningful! And I love that you two have known each other since high school! (I’m biased. I’ve known Stephen since high school too.) As for displaying them. Hmm. You could frame them in a shadow box. Or on a wire/ribbon/string in an empty frame. You could hang a little branch on the wall or in a vase and use that to display the rings. Hmm. A pretty jewelry tree or something of similar build might make for a nice display. That’s all I’ve got for now.
i LOVE your blog! my husband and i are hoping to buy our first house within the year, and you have inspired me to look at a space just as an idea- that i can change as much as i want!
ALSO, i found a VERY similar lamp to your glass one at Target tonight! it’s not as wide as your’s, BUT it might make a cute little pair! hopefully you will be able to find one in your area! good luck!
I love lamps too. Lets see so far I have 8 in our home and always tend to gravitate toward the lamp section. By the way I have an orphaned pillow I’m looking for at TJMaxx and Homegoods.
I am seriously short on lamps. I need floor lamps, table lamps, chandeliers, you name it. I’m finding it harder to thrift and paint them, so I have a feeling I might be biting the bullet like yourself and buying new ones soon also.
I like the clear glass one in the guest room 🙂
Oh wow….love the mercury class. Perfect. I may even like them more than the clear lamp. And that is saying something because I have a thing for clear lamps.
Ummm so I think we have 12 in the house? I am always on the hunt for some more. Derek thinks I need a Homegoods lamp intervention.
Love the class rings just the way they are…..displayed but subtle. And they make you smile everyday which is the most important part!
Hey there!
I just tagged you with a Stylish Blogger Award. It’s in my latest post.
Let’s see… I have 8 lamps in my house. I LOVE your new lamps! Very classic. I have a few mis-matched lamps that I’d love to replace, but they’re functional and we have higher priorities. And, I like your ring display. Is it wierd that I still wear my class ring occasionally?
Lastly, Kim, I love you but please please please go turn those lamp shades around right now so the seam is towards the wall (I’m so Type A, can you tell?) 🙂
Those lamps/color look great next to your walls…but what about the new house? Although I bet they’d look great next to the living room gray. And that clear glass lamp will work anywhere and it’s “look” could be easily changed with a new shade. I can’t believe you didn’t have bedside lamps before. I really like lamps, but John likes overhead lights. I’m on the hunt for a small one for the dresser (did you check that out?) and the console table. Let me know if you see some good ones. I often have good luck at HomeGoods and Target.
PS- John doesn’t have a HS class ring, but he has a college one. I have one from HS but not college. I think mine is still home in CT.
Oh, I adore the new lamps! Fabulous. Fabulous. Fabulous. I have a lamp post for tomorrow – it must have been a lighting month for us, huh?
I currently have 10 lamps in my house. I think. They aren’t as fabulous as your mercury glass ones, though.
What about a shadow box for the rings with pictures of you and Ryan in high school? And then, obviously, your kids will need to wear them in their senior pics. But that’s a ways out.
I’m hugely into those lamps! They look great in your room and I can’t wait to see them in your new house 🙂
We’ve got a lot of lamps – so much so that I’ve got them in a rotation… if I had to count, I’d say that we’ve got 12 lamps for 4 rooms that required lamps (ie, not in the kitchen, bathroom). Yikes! Don’t tell Lucas 🙂
Your room looks splendid.
I’m on the look for better lamps for our room too, but since we know we are moving this summer or in the fall I haven’t been hunting too hard.
Maybe I should just bite the bullet and start looking 🙂
Biz
I’m starting to get into lamps now too!
I recently purchased some silver and mercury labs from TJMaxx…don’t go stealing all of the good lamps…. 😛
I just saw some lamps like your clear glass one in my local Target store…they looked a lot like the one you have! Maybe you can find a match there!
Love the new lamps! We have atleast 6 or 7 lamps in our house.
We have about 13 lamps in our house. I prefer them over ceiling fixtures.
I love the bedroom lamps! The mecury glass look and the shape are awesome. Please do me a favor… turn the shade around so the seam is in the back! The seam showing makes my designer heart skip a beat!
I second the shadow box idea for your rings. You could put some other momentos in there also.
The class ring thing is adorable. You guys are seriously so cute.
And the lamps? Awesome. Love the gold.
LOVE your new lamps. I may need to go check them out for myself. I need a new one for the living room. How many do I own? Let’s see – one in the bedroom, FOUR in the office (no overhead light) three in the living room, two in the dining room, one in the guest room, and three in the attic. So – 14? 🙂
I love the new lamps! They add a lot of warmth to the bedroom – that gold mercury glass look is awesome. We have 7 lamps (I think) and then some stragglers that kind of just sit there. 🙂 Your class ring story is too cute!
Great new lamps! I really like the touch of gold.
We have 8 lamps. 3 purchased new and 5 thrifted and made over.
Wow, wow wow I’m freaking out because that’s what I do I’m a freakerouter… but seriously Kim I love, love, love your new lamps. They look amazing – but you already knew that.
XO – Rach
oooh the lamps are gorgeous. they look especially good with the brown. very classy. and if you ever get sick of the clear glass one, you can pack it on up and send it to GA 🙂
i only have 4 lamps – one in each room. our house is so small that we don’t have much flat surface areas at all. i don’t think i could fit any more (but could certainly upgrade the ones i do have!)
Your new lamps are beautiful! They look fantastic in your bedroom. I can’t believe how you all have gotten by with so few lamps! We have 9 lamps but need about 5 more. But we don’t have an overhead light in our living room and that’s where three of the lamps are (but I would love to replace two of those with bigger lamps plus add a floor lamp).
I LOVE mercury glass! But I’ve never seen gold mercury glass. OMG. It’s gorgeous! So… “high style.” I’m glad you didn’t leave those beauties behind.
kim! congrats on the lamps!!! i know it’s a big step for you. 😉
excellent and beautiful choices. love the drum style shade! and who doesn’t love mercury glass?
i have lots of lamps. all my guests rooms have at least three. i actually hate overhead lighting. blah.
so, this may be a little much… but you know those vintage printer block drawers? with all the little square openings?
http://flickriver.com/photos/42222447@N08/4448508227/
you could hang it on your wall and display several meaningful ‘small’ items.
my mom is starting a charm braclet for my neice. i found her a printers block drawer and my sister in law displays each charm in a little opening until she’s old enough to wear it.
hope that’s helpful!
again, love the lamps!
We have 4 lamps in our house, but 2 of them do not work. We have 2 in the bedroom and 2 in the living room (they don’t work). I am sure if we had more room we would have a few more lamps. It is nice to have lamps and not have to turn the overhead on.
My class ring is in the jewerly box, but you could do a little shadow box or something.
Those lamps are cute.
