Halloween for the rest of us

November 1, 2010 by Kim Woodward

So, admittedly, we aren’t huge Halloween people. We don’t dress up like all the cool kids. (But I do dress up the pugs.) I don’t really decorate for it.

But, this year – Halloween was actually a lot o’ fun. First, our friends Jon and Ann invited us for dinner. We had a fabulous dinner and Ann did up the table setting for Halloween. It was total Martha-esque.

The mummy is made with a foam head and coffee-stained decoupage. Love it.

And, she got the idea for the tree and origami from Martha herself.

They carved out a pumpkin for a cooler.

And even had fun place settings.

It was just such a fun table set-up.

Everything was just so.

I told Ann she needs to blog. She’s so crafty.

Ann and I also carved pumpkins, since our husbands had no interest. We decided to try our hand at house numbers, and they turned out awesome.

I think I should try the house numbers next year.

And, as an aside – here’s how we took care of a piece of pumpkin that popped off – just screw a screw into the piece to hold it. So smart, right?

The guys dug up the grape vines. Ann and Jon didn’t want them any more so Ryan planted them at the new house. I’m envisioning grape jelly in our future.

Ann made us these awesome glasses, which we wore throughout the night. Who needs a costume?

Then, on Halloween, we hung out at home and passed out candy for a while. We don’t get an obscene amount of trick-or-treaters, but it gives me a reason to buy a lot of candy.

And, this list makes me laugh – all the stuff we need for the house. And, then at the bottom – candy. For trick-or-treaters. Thank goodness Menards has candy, too. Kill lots of birds with one stone.

How was your Halloween?

I think you can add candy to any to-buy list and make it okay. 😉 What a fun evening you guys had!! Love her place settings. 🙂

I’m hosting a Silhouette Product Giveaway today, and you don’t have to own a machine to use the items…just scissors. 😉 Hope you might swing by!

I laughed out loud at the pumpkin fix! You are awesome!
Next year I’m devoting an entire flower bed to Cinderella pumpkins. I thought that’d make you happy. 🙂

Oooh I love the pumkin cooler and the house numbers… but who are we kidding I would love 100 pumkins lined around the house all carved… only if I had a pumkin patch… and a full time pumkin carving master… :+) a girl can dream.

What a fun dinner with friends! We just hung out tonight and watched football and gave candy to trick or treaters. We also dressed up our dog! 🙂

I am right there with you on Halloween. We do the whole candy thing, but that is about it. Derek likes to call me a Halloween scrooge.

You are so right….she does need to start a blog to show off all those great ideas! Looks like a really fun evening!

We’re not big Halloween people either. It looks like you had a great weekend, though. And I just love those pumpkin house numbers!!

A restful day today. Ha! How boring. Ok, so last night we went to an adult Halloween party, no dressing up for us. Got to see people we haven’t seen in a long time. Then came home and sat in the hot tub under the stars. Now THAT is fun, Halloween or not. 😉

Great halloween for us! We celebrated my dads birthday in Morrison with lots of family and friends. They had 4 crockpots with different soups and tons and tons of food. Then we came home and Moochie built a fire and we watched football! Her scarecrow got FIRST place in Andover contest. Yeah sissy!

What a fun weekend. Halloween for me has always been creative costumes, beer and parties. Last year I had morning sickness all day long and this year I have a child that doesn’t really accompany beer and parties well. So we made it fun in a whole new way. Love the pumpkins carved into the house numbers!
