For me? Sushi

February 19, 2009 by Kim Woodward

Well… somehow in all my years, I have never had real sushi. I have had a spring roll once… and it was good. But for some reason, I’ve never had anything else. I blame my husband (as with most other things) because he is not interested in anything sushi.
Enter my dear friend, Rebecca.

This sweetheart decided it was about time for Kim to try sushi for real. (The fact that she craving sushi like something crazy had nothing to do with it.)

When we got to the restaurant, I was down right giddy with excitement. We sat down and Rebecca asked, “are you going to blog about this?”
“Sh*t.” I forgot my camera. It was a moment that needed to be documented, and I forgot my camera.
But my darling Rebecca had an I Phone, so she took care of it. Go Rebecca! Here’s me with the sushi we ordered.
But, I’m getting ahead of myself. Ordering sushi was harder than I expected. So, I just let Rebecca do it. We got Iowa City rolls (my favorite), cream cheese rolls, California rolls, tuna and salmon a la carte.
Oh my my… it was FABULOUS. I would have licked my plate if I would have thought no one would have judged me.
It was like Rebecca read my mind. So, we ordered more Iowa City rolls.
Moral of this story: Sushi is the best.
The end.

I too am curious about an IA City roll! But I kind of have a rule about not eating sushi far inland. I got SUPER spoiled by Mr. M’s favorite spot, where the fish was flown in from Tokyo daily.

Too bad this wasn’t discovered when we still worked at the Clarion 🙁
I think shogun would have become our favorite place!

I have enjoyed sushi the few times I’ve had it, but what on earth is in an Iowa City roll?

I have a hard time eating sushi though — I can’t always fit the whole roll in my mouth!

My husband is also completely disinterested in sushi. I’ve been curious for a couple of years now. I considered ordering some at a Japanese steak place a few weeks ago, but the menu was too intimidating! I need a friend to take care of it for me, like yours did. Glad you loved it!

You mean it’s not acceptable to lick my sushi plate whilst moaning longingly? No wonder no one wants to dine w/ me……

YUM! I love sushi! What’s in the IA City roll? When we lived there, there were very few sushi places but Three Samurai was our fave.

Good for you! Maybe good for me…now I know I have another friend to invite out to sushi! Yum! California Rolls are my favorite.

I wouldn’t have judged your for licking your plate! I’m still daydreaming about the awesome sushi roll I had last Friday 🙂 More people need to give sushi a try – they are really missing out!!
