Finally, a chalkboard!

October 21, 2011 by Kim Woodward

I’ve finally done it.

I FINALLY HAVE A CHALKBOARD.

And it feels good.

The story starts ages ago. I bought a ginormo frame from Habitat for Humanity in February of 2010 for $3. It was gold-colored and a little rough. But, it was so darn big that I had to buy it. You should have seen me try to get this puppy home.

It didn’t QUITE fit in the Prius. But, it was $3 so I made it work.

And 20 months later, we made it into a chalkboard.

I painted the frame in the same color as the kitchen trim and Ryan attached a thin piece of plywood with chalkboard paint. He added hanging hardware and hung it on the wall. It was clearly twenty months worth of work here.

But, it fits perfectly on this wall in the kitchen. So, I’m a happy girl. I spent most of last night drawing with my chalkboard pens. (And because it inevitably will come up – I bought the chalkboard pens at Michael’s.)

I’m not planning to use it for anything productive. Just doodles and drawings and the occasional love note.

What do you think?

May I ask where you got the raised three-bowl dog dish? I’ve been looking for one but have only seen twofers! I have two doggies, therefore I need three bowls…one each for their food and one for their water…Yours is perfect!

    Love it! It’s perfect there.

I am obsessed with your doors. They are gorgeous!!!! I love, love, love that you left them beautiful wood. I really want to strip my doors and now I have an idea of how it would look with the white trim.

LOVE how ginormo it is! (is that a word?) Well I’m using it! It’s adorable. Fabulous find for $3. And I’m also loving your fall mantle, by the way! Kicking butt and taking names over here on Newlywoodwards….!

Love it! It was well worth the wait and the hauling. I am assuming you had to move it. Did you already know the grand plan for it then or did you have to convince Ryan as he was hauling it that you were going to make something super cool someday? Because if it is the latter, now you can say “i told you so”. You know if you ever said things like that.

I love it! What an awesome frame! Ooh and I love your striped rug!

Were the chalkboard markers expensive? I had looked for them at Michael’s one time and they were like $12 or something. I thought that was a little steep.

I love how this turned out! The contrast of the frame and the color on your walls is perfect:) Plus, how could you pass up a deal for $3, that’s practically unheard of anymore. By the way, I love the little doggie dish too! I need to get one of those for my puppy:)
