Okay, it’s not. Obviously. In our neck of the woods, we’ve been dealing with major heat advisories, stickiness and sunburns. And, more stickiness.
But, try telling that to my pumpkins.
Can you blame them? Fall is awesome.
And, I actually had to pick five of them last week. I probably could have waited, but they were 100 percent orange and I have an irrational and paralyzing fear that someone is going to steal or destroy them.
I know. It’s ridiculous. Welcome to my husband’s world.
Why am I so scared, you ask? Because everyone who sees the pumpkins, LOVES THEM. The neighbors, the dog walkers, the school kids (we are right by a high school). And, the pumpkins are behind our garage where anyone could swipe one.
And, I’m also a bit afraid some punk high-schooler is going to smash the pumpkins. Or, that someone’s going to think the Woodwards’ house is his personal pumpkin patch. So, I have to check them a few times a day. When I saw a few skateboarders behind the garage after school one day, I had to go behind there and stare them down to make sure they were not messing with my pumpkins.
Yeah, I’m that person.
Totally normal.
But now I have several fabulous and perfect pumpkins just waiting for September. Because I cannot pretend to be normal when displaying pumpkins in August. But, I can totally bring them out at midnight on September 1.
Right?

OK I officially have pumpkin envy. These look amazing. And I would definitely be guarding them very carefully every day.
Bah!!! I want your farmer genes! I cannot believe those pumpkin grew up all by themselves…
Oh my gosh, those pumpkins are perfect! And yes, September is totally acceptable. Last year I got a lot of hassle for buying pumpkins in September – maybe I should grow them next year and avoid the obnoxious comments.
September is totally reasonable! ; )
Those are gorgeous and I’m also that same kind of person–my future husband also thinks I’m paranoid/silly but I don’t care. He loves me still so that’s all that matters! HA I need to add pumpkins to our list of garden stuff for next year!
Oh I can’t wait for fall. I’m ready to say goodbye to this heat and hello to some jeans and long sleeves. Those pumpkins have me craving fall!
i think i would do the same thing because your pumpkins are beautiful! you have a green thumb, friend!
Love them! I would love to grow my own pumpkins, but I would never get my husband to continue our traditional trip to the pumpkin farm for hayrides, petting zoo and all those other fun fall activities if I could run out in the backyard and grab a pumpkin for next to nothing.
Cracking up, so cool your growing your own pumpkins! I’m already thinking of Halloween, even though its still in the 90’s and summertime in Cali
LOL you crack me up!
But if I had teens with access to my jumbo pumpkins I’d be sitting out there guarding them.
My are still yellow thank goodness.. I dont want those suckers to get yucky before Halloween…
Ummmmm… I would totally be guarding the pumpkins. And putting them out at midnight on September 1st. Give the neighbors something to be jealous about…. your fabulous pumpkin growing skills!!
And normal… what’s that?! 😉
🙂 I can just see you running around in the dark on September 1st setting up pumpkin displays!
As a summer person, I personally don’t welcome fall until the end of September. Fall is fine, I just hate admitting that winter is around the corner.
glee! it really is time for fall, eh? i am irrational with my fears of local kids taking things or smashing things. we are on a corner, and there are so many middle and highschoolers in the neighborhood-i dub them hoodlems-that whenever i hear one walk by, i peek out the window to see what they are doing. talk about crazy!
Yes. September is a respectable pumpkin time (and it isn’t that far off).
Also, as a high school teacher – I’m going to go ahead and say that it’s better to play it safe and guard your pumpkins if you are that close to the school. I love the punks, but they don’t always behave themselves. Or think.
Does that make you feel less crazy??
Those are good lookin’ pumpkins, Kim! I don’t blame you for wanting to display them. T and I totally turned into the grouchy old couple when we moved into this house (at 22 and 23 years old) and the young teens next door would go wild at all hours of the night (and morning). When I was pg with Natalie, he actually called the cops on them b/c they were wrestling in our front yard at 3 am. :s
wow, can’t believe they are so early. I only ever got one puny looking one off of my vine and that was waiting to the last second to pick it. You know what those high school kids are saying about you now, right? 😉
I love fall unfortunately I won’t see much of fall here in the desert of CA. But I don’t blame you or protecting those pumpkins, after all there is a pumpkin shortage so finding canned pumpkin will be hard to come by.
I cant wait for fall either!!
Pumpkins!!!
I can’t wait to take my kids on our annual pumpkin patch trip this year. Or maybe we’ll just come to your house … better keep an eye on that garage. 😉
This post had me giggling. I heart you.
PS: I’m totally green with pumkin envy I might even whine about the fact that I don’t have a pumpkin garden to Mr. Arkansas tonight :+)
you are so funny! Beautiful pumpkins by the way! I can’t wait for fall, my favorite time! heck I’m the person who left my “JOY” Christmas door mat out all year, yup, it’s still there! It’s either that or my Harvest one so I’ll just change it out in September! lol
I am so ready for fall and to start decorating. My loving husband said I have to wait until September 1st before I can buy and fall decorations or put anything up. I am waiting patiently.
pumpkins! you lucky duck!
first they are beautiful and i’d leave them out … who cares what the neighbors think! maybe you’ll be in the newspaper again.
and second, i would totally guard them too. last year i brought my pumpkins in every night for over a month! nobody had a chance to smash my pumpkins!
I wish you lived closer and you could plant some things for me. I think you should put a remote control shocker and when it is turn on and someone even puts their hand in the patch it shocks them 🙂
The pumpkins look great and I can’t wait to live fall through you (we are selling our house so we really can’t decorate right now).
Absolutely! I always have to restrain myself from the fall decor until Sept. 1st.
You are so funny! It was a great way to start my day. Pumpkins look fantastic.
that is awesome! i would totally be protective of them too!! Yes, after Labor Day you have the official go-ahead (but honestly, Sep 1 is close enough!)
It’s all good, I don’t blame you for guarding your pumpkins. They are pretty great! Except for that they kind of take over gardens sometime. I’m guessing that was the mysterious vine? That was going to be my guess after that happened in my FIL’s garden. Sounds like you’ve got it under control better than we did though! Yay for pumpkins!
You are hilarious! I love that you shared your crazy with us. That was a good way to start the day. 🙂
