Easy patriotic burlap wreath

May 23, 2018 by Kim Woodward

Memorial Day weekend is right around the corner – and if you are new around here, that means I’m currently throwing red, white and blue around the house like confetti.

Oooooo….. confetti. That’s an idea.

I just love all things Americana. There’s something about summer that feels so patriotic, and our farmhouse just begs me to cover it in stars and stripes. As part of 2018’s Red, White and Blue-ing, I’ve also been cleaning and sprucing up the back porch. I thought this large wooden star needed a dose of the grand ol’ flag.

Luckily, there’s a wreath for that.

This wreath is truly such a simple project – anyone can complete a burlap wreath like this in just minutes. And that means you can customize it to your heart’s content and add a little color anywhere you need it.

Because if you like then you shoulda put a wreath on it.

Beyonce says so. And who would ever dare question Beyonce?

I’m excited to be sharing this super simple wreath inspiration as part of the Seasonal Simplicity Wreath Hop with a bunch of super talented and creative bloggers. You’ll be so inspired with all the ideas. (Check them out at the bottom of the post.)

If you want to make a burlap wreath for yourself, here’s what you’ll need:

  • Any size metal wreath form (mine is 18 inches)
  • Wide burlap ribbon in the colors of your choosing (Mine was 2.5 inches wide and 15 feet long. I used a total of 4 rolls of the stripe and 1 1/2 rolls of blue)
  • Scissors (not pictured -I think you can imagine what it looks like, though)

Yep. That’s it. Grab yourself a glass of wine and get wreath-making.

To get the bubble look, simply pull out a bit of ribbon through each of the three spaces. Got it? Good. Because that’s it.

You’ll just pull the ribbon through like this over and over again. Once one row is pulled through, I just push it toward the wire support and starting again. By pushing it together as you go, you’ll get a nice full look. The smaller the wreath form, the more full this will look. But it still looks nice with a larger form like I chose. (Mine is 18 inches.)

This is not an act of perfection. The ribbon lengths aren’t perfect or scientific, but it turned out so cute. I used red stripes and blue to mimic the look of a flag.

Because. ‘MERICA.

Once you have filled the whole form, you can add a bow to the top and hang it. (I used another scrap of ribbon to attach it to the star.)

And that’s it! You could easily pump one of these out in less than 30 minutes. And the repetitive nature makes it relaxing to me.

If you want to check out all the other awesome wreath projects … now’s the time.

I’m so excited that the Seasonal Simplicity series is back again; and this time it’s to celebrate summer! Enjoy the inspiration and ideas…
