Easy holiday decor: hanging ornaments

December 9, 2008 by Kim Woodward

Thanks for all of your kind comments about our Christmas decorations.

A few of you asked about how I hung the ornaments in my dining room. It was so easy, it’s scary.

This picture was a little deceiving. It looks like the ornaments are magically hanging in the air.

But, let’s not get crazy. They aren’t magic. They are on fishing line. This photo shows it better.

I just used a variety of ornaments from the wedding (I found it seems to look better with a few large ones for variety (the solid ones were purchased the day after Christmas at Wal-Mart, the others were bought by my mom at Seasonal Concepts). I hung them from the curtain rod. My aunt did something similar and hung hers from nails that matched her trim. She tied the line around the white nail (matching the white trim) and put the nails close to the trim. You can’t even see it and you can leave the nails in after the holidays too cause they blend. Love it!

I also put the ornaments on the light fixture. The photo doesn’t show off how cool it really looks. But, it looks pretty “festive,” in the Grinch (my husband’s) words.

This actually solves several issues. 1) It helps decorate the table. 2) It doesn’t involve anything on the table. Putting something on the table is just begging my devil dog to get up ON TOP of the table….

I’m not kidding.

I blatantly stole this idea from an old magazine clipping (I think it was BH&G). I wanted to do it at our wedding above the head table. But, this wasn’t allowed. So, I kept it in my memory bank ’til now. I love how it turned out.

What do you think?

Looks beautiful–I love it! I did something similar (to the window one) a few years ago in my first house and I just love the look. So pretty! And your chandelier turned out great, too!

Love love love. I saw someone do the light fixture hangings for Valentines day – paper hearts (on fun paper) glued to fishing line. So cute, but this involves less cutting, so is way more up my alley!
