Easy Easter craft decor for kids

March 22, 2013 by Kim Woodward

I planned to post today for kitchen week, but life had other plans. The little Henry-man is sick as can be, which means lots of holding and rocking and soothing. No complaints about the snuggle time. (And just a few complaints about the lack of sleep.) Anyhoo, I’ll try to wrap up the kitchen posts next week. (Until then, make sure to check out our full kitchen tour and IKEA cabinets review.)

But, before the weekend begins, I did want to drop in after bedtime with a quick Easter craft that we whipped up before the little guy took a turn for the sick. This would be a great project for kids to do this weekend, just in time for Easter.

I wanted to make a little something for Easter. And I know Henry’s too little to do most crafts. But I didn’t let that stop me. So I got him down to his diaper and put him in the bathtub for our first adventure in finger painting.

Let’s just say it turned into full-body and entire-bathtub painting. But we ended up with a few pages of Henry finger paint art.

(I wish I would have gotten a photo of my son covered head to toe in nontoxic Crayola paints, but let’s just say that keeping the slippery little paint monster in the tub was a full-time job. Also, I’ll have you know that the paints totally are washable. Thank you, Crayola.)

To dress up the page for Easter, I cut a piece of Kraft paper on the Silhouette with a bunny and the phrase “Some bunny loves you.” I simply pasted the cut page to the top of the finger painted page. The cut areas allow the painted areas to show through. The painting ended up taking on a marbled effect, which is actually really cool.

One is in a picture frame in our living room, while the other two are going to live with the grandparents. (Surprise, grandparents.) I think they turned out quite cute. Easter Finger painting artwork2

What do you think?

Do you love Henry’s first masterpieces as much as I do?

Hey exceptional blog! Does running a blog like this require a massive amount
work? I’ve virtually no knowledge of programming but I had been hoping to start my own blog soon. Anyway, should you have any suggestions or techniques for new blog owners please share. I understand this is off subject but I just needed to ask. Appreciate it!

WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!! I’m totally stealing it. 😉 I was just doing an activity with Kayden today (digging in colored rice for “treasures”), feeling bad for Elliott as she was sitting in her highchair watching. I thought, oh, I’ll let her play too, she might like putting her hands in the rice bowl. And she did! All was fine and good for about two minutes…then I took my eyes off Elliott to watch Kayden for a second and wouldn’t you know…a fistful of rice went in the baby’s mouth EEK!!! What a terrible idea. Don’t do that activity with a baby. :-/ This painting activity, on the other hand, is fabulous. =)

Love this idea and it turned out soo cute! And, I’m impressed you’re finger painting – Nell wants to know if she can come to your house for a few days and do fun things. Also, I have decided I need a silhouette. You’ve now convinced me on IKEA kitchens and silhouettes in two days, your blog is getting pricey 🙂
