A drawing of our first home

August 4, 2010 by Kim Woodward

So, now that the news has broke that we will be moving (at some point), I’m excited to share one way that we will remember our current home, our first home. (Besides the 46,000 photos, the blog and all our memories.)

I asked my friend Allison (I love blog friends) if she could draw our home. After several emails back and forth, this amazing drawing of our home arrived. It’s so perfect, and something we’ll always treasure. I love it more than any photograph. I especially like the style of her drawing. It’s casual and fun, just like the home we tried to create.

I immediately framed it with a black frame that I had from IKEA and hung it in the dining room. Everyone who has seen it has loved it as much as we have. And, it actually makes me a little sentimental about leaving. Like it’s more real. Even though we are ready for this new adventure, we truly love this home. And, we’ve put a lot of ourselves into it.

If you are interested, check out Allison’s blog or her Etsy store ARTitecture (you can even order your own custom home portrait). (Also – go leave her a comment on Re-Nest, where she’s trying out to be a member of the editorial team.) She’s one talented gal and I’m so glad we met through the blogosphere.

Thanks again, Allison!

What a great picture….I agree I love the informality of it. And I know what you mean about a bittersweet move. I was so excited for a new house but when it really was happening I was sad about leaving our first place. We have a photo of it in our hallway, but I love the drawing idea so much more!

I might have to just flat out copy you on this – I love it. We’re not moving, but I’ll want a drawing of our house when we are, so why not just get it now, right? I love this, Kim. What a fabulous memento you’re taking with you!

My parents have something similar, but I really like the casual feel that yours has. I have seen her work before (on Etsy), but I definitely think I will be ordering a drawing from her now.

That is a very fun picture! I never really thought about it, but I agree most house drawings are too formal, surreal looking. When are you tackling your first project? What will it be?

Awww I may cry when we leave Bungalow 34, I know how you feel. We love our homes and put our hearts into them… they become a child in sorts then to just move is hard (Even when its a move forward). I am super excited for you though!

PS: Does this mean you will get chickens? lol
