Silly bands. On our 10-year-old cousin’s wrists.
Enlighten me, friends.

Enlighten me, friends.
(And when did I become so far out of the loop? Is 26 when you begin feeling old?)
Yes, as a fellow 26-year-old, I’ve experienced those moments too! I have no idea what those are. I do remember the slap-on bracelets though!
i don’t get them AT ALL! yet, we send them to the nieces and nephews because they love them. maybe they are like those slap on bracelets that i saved money to buy and collect?
They sell them everywhere now and there are half a dozen different brands. I don’t get it, but I’m sure I would have wanted them when I was 10.
Are those frogs?
My 18 yr. old cousin had one on Saturday that looked like a bikini top (or sunglasses, it was still up for debate).
My nieces (6 and 8) LOVE silly bands and I’m the cool Aunt who knows to buy them b/c the Today Show ran an clip about them being banned from schools. They have to be cool if schools don’t want them, right? They’re also really great for my almost 2 year old daughter b/c she loves to wear bracelets and these are super small for her teeny wrists and if she loses them it’s whatever. They’re cheap to replace 🙂
I’m right there with you! I’m 26 and feel old.
I agree with Mrs. Adventure, don’t understand the appeal of them, but wish I could think of something like that! They have been very popular at the school I work at since last April, wondered if they would survive the summer and they actually got more popular. Funny that the trend is popular with high schoolers and kindergartners alike!
My girls are 6 and 8. They have more than I can count. I think it’s a fun little part of being a kid. It doesn’t make sense to us, but it’s cute to watch my girls line them up, color coordinate with their outfits and mostly, spend hours trading with their friends. I remember doing the same thing with puffy stickers when I was a little girl.
LOL – my cousins are obsessed with these things! what’s the deal – do share if you ever figure it out!
My 5 year olds love them because of the shapes… they have a ton.. but no I dont get it either.
ugh.. those things are the bane of my existence!! They were super distracting and caused way too many problems in my classroom last year. First grade banned them from our school!
Totally do not get these… you are clearly not alone!! 😉
I forget you’re such a young pup….when I was a young-un we wore “jelly bracelets” to go with our “jelly shoes”…I actually saw a girl with jelly shoes on at the Iowa State Fair last week! I think these crazy things are just one of those kind of deals. 🙂 Oh….and parachute pants…and Kangaroo shoes….tight rolled jeans…oh I could go on forever. LOL
They are like the slap bracelets of our time– what was such a big deal about them?
In my wedding photos, my flower girl has them all up and down her arms. I can’t wait till she gets older and I can tease her about it. Mwa ha ha.
LB
At first I thought they were candy. They look like gummies…
Don’t feel bad. I’m 24 and teach high school… and they don’t make any sense to me either. I think they are called jelly bracelets?? Though, I’ve never seen them with little doo dads going in every direction.
The urban myth is that different colors mean different things – but I’ve never heard of that actually being true.
I thought we’d escape this trend until they gave some to my 4 year old at VBS in June. Now she thinks they are so cool. I suppose it’s similar to the “slap bracelets” I had in the 80s/90s. :s
I don’t get it either, but my 4 year old likes them. He just knows that if I find them on the floor they go in the trash.
I think there are super cute, love the shapes. Big however way to much money for colored rubber bands, lol. lucky me my son thinks they are silly!
I saw an Oprah on sex bracelets one time, now everytime I see a 9 year old with those sillybands on I think they’re WAY too mature. B told me the other day when I was commenting on how young kids were wearing sex bracelets, “Em, I think those sex bracelets were like 10 years ago, I don’t even think that’s a trend still”.
Yea, I don’t really see the point either. But lets put our brains together to come up with the next biggest way to make a fortune marketing to the 12 and under crowd, mkay?
I dont get the craze. I wish I was the 12 year old who came out with this idea and is making millions though
All my kids had them in the spring, but I don’t remember any with feet. At first I thought they were rubber bands. I don’t get the point of their different shapes if they are unrecognizable when wearing them.
My god-daughter is 7 and she loves them too! I guess its no different then us wearing slap bracelets in the 80s-90s also the jelly ones!
Ohhhhh so I shouldn’t be rocking these? I’m too old? Great. I CANNOT for the life of me, keep up with these trends.
They DO look like candy though, mmmm gummy bracelets…
This is the first I’ve heard of them. I’ll join you in the “old club”! :0)
If you want to get her an inexpensive gift/unique and support a good cause. You can get 5 silly bands for $3 at any Chili’s and all proceeds go to St. Jude.
The craze is definitely a crazy one like all the ones from the past.
My boyfriend’s 5 year old niece introduced them to me…and had to show me each one of the 25 she had on her tiny arm. Hers were all animal shapes. But I’ve seen food, religious ones, sports ones, etc. I also saw a photo of Shakira wearing them…nuts, huh?
But I had slap bracelets when I was young, so I guess it’s really no different haha.
yeah, i don’t get it. but at least it’s a cheaper fad than some of the other ones i remember from childhood.
i even saw a kid’s novel-type book about silly bandz recently – that’s bizarre.
I dont understand them either, but what I *really* dont understand is when I see adults (40yrs old +) wearing them. Now *thats* on the strange side
I started feeling old when I was a year out of college and went to summer camp as a chaperon for a bunch of teenagers. Soooo not as “with it” as I thought I was.
kim, we need to be teens or preteens again to truly understand.
i think silly bands fall into the same catagory as the furby or tamagotchi. remember them?
every retailer in this area has them. except me. and i’m proud to say that!
i think it’s best to pretend to understand … that way we can hang on to our youth a bit longer. i kinda miss those days when our biggest worry was having the ‘lastest’ toy rather than stressing about getting gas turned on in your new house!
All I have to say is that I’m glad my five-year-old is too young to care about trends. I don’t get the point of these, either!
Lmao seriously I swear I have said that exact thing about the exact thing! Seriously I don’t understand them at all and the guy has made millions like the pet rock ha ha. God bless the USA 🙂
