I knew you’d love the in-laws’ basement family room remodel. (And, no. None of you can have my in-law. I’m still working out a business plan for a rental system. I think Steve, Joyce and I – acting as manager – could make some big bucks.)
So, I also took some other photos of my in-laws’ house for you. Decorating eye candy, so to speak. And I thought it would be fun to do a side-by-side comparison of the same rooms in the past.
This was the living room in 2009. (I shared these photos here.)
It’s such a pretty room. But, because my mother-in-law changes rooms more frequently than you change your underwear, here it is today.
Or more honestly, last week. Heck. It could be completely different by now.
It’s reading a little darker in here than in real life. I’m giving myself a pat-on-the-back, because my mother-in-law painted the room Seal by Martha Stewart after helping me paint our dining room in the same color. Usually I steal ideas from her, so this is a big deal.
I love the shelves.
And the plank wall.
It’s an evolving space. And I love it every time.
And now let’s compare the dining area. In 2009.
And last week.
And a few other areas I love in my in-laws’ home. Like the half bath.
The hallway nook.
The garage doors.
They have such a lovely home, so I hope you enjoyed the little tour. And thanks to them for allowing me to (or rather not prohibiting me from) taking these pictures to share.
What’s your favorite part?

Too much to choose! I love it all! (I do keep thinking how nice that paint color would look in the bedroom…) 🙂
Your mother-in-law has great style! That home looks like it’s got lots of character. So charming!
I love that dark paint color!
wow! what beautiful house!
love the way they used all the wood and molding! it’s inspiring! do they have a ‘how-to blog’? haha.
and… where did she get those red and white curtains!? they look like mine from the room i redid this spring. could it be the same material!?
I’m passing through some of the blogs and thought id stop and say hello. And i hope that you folks have a very nice fall weekend. Richard from the Amish community of Lebanon Pennsylvania.
Ok…your MIL is my fantcy MIL!!! You luck out!
Look at all those Longabergers! I counted at my parent’s house once…my mom has more than 60. One of our family vacations was even to the Longaberger headquarters. Giant basket and all.
I love every single light fixture/lamp they have in their house!
Those garage doors are awesome!! They have a lovely home. 🙂
If I could I would move out to the country, grow a field of corn, wear some adorable cowgirl boots and run over to your in-laws and steal each one of those garage doors for my adorable craftsman home. But, we will be staying in our house for awhile, I have no idea how to grow a field of corn and I passed on the cowgirl boots when we were in Nashville since I wasn’t sure when it would be appropriate to wear them in Michigan. So…tell you in-laws, their doors are safe….for now.
Please put me on the waiting list to rent out your in-laws. Wow. Amazing taste!
I love how eclectic yet put together it is. Good work in-laws!
I’m also in love with their Granny square blanket..it’s a new obsession of mine.
Love the change in curtains, the full-wall shelving and the beadboard in the nook. Oh, and the garage doors are fantastic!
Thanks for sharing!
Are they quite punctual? (They seem to have a lot of clocks!)
