The dark side of IKEA

July 7, 2010 by Kim Woodward

I mentioned that I’ve been to IKEA three times over the past few months in the hunt for the sofa. The photo below is documentation of why it’s a good thing that we don’t have an IKEA closer than 2 1/2 hours from our house.
We have to turn the Prius into a pickup truck during the first trip. And, it makes the cash flow decline. (In all fairness, some of this was from my friend Sarah, who joined me on the second IKEA journey.)
Oh yeah… and here’s me when mom was picking me up at the loading dock during the third trip. With… lots of stuff.
But, on the up-side, our home is a bit more organized. (Don’t you love these green containers?)

I especially love that I have two boxes for magazines I haven’t read yet. They look so much neater.

IKEA is a dangerous, yet beautiful place.

Would you agree?

This dark side of IKEA… I know what you are speaking of. 😉 We once spent SIX HOURS in IKEA and left with two rooms of furniture!! I will not speak of the hours we spent assembling the purchases…. 😉 I’m planning a trip at the beginning of August. I’m hoping to show some self control….

My husband refuses to go to Ikea with me because its like we get sucked into an abyss and loose 2-3 hours of time and come out with a whole bunch of stuff. Ikea is a very very dangerous place. Beware.

I love those boxes too! I have bought more each time we’ve gone. I still need six more of the “DVD” ones for my paperback books! My mom keeps saying it’s time for an Ikea trip and I couldn’t agree more!

I think I am the last person on earth who has never been to one! The closest is 2 hours away! Maybe one day, for now I’ll enjoy your photo’s. Cool green organizing boxes!

I’ve got 4 IKEA’s within a reasonable distance but “my IKEA” is only 10-15 minutes away. It’s like running into Target. I was there Saturday and in & out in less than an hour. IKEA! ON A SATURDAY! That’s huge.

The more you go, the easier it is to navigate. I usually go in the exit to skip the showrooms and get right to the good stuff.

I like Ikea – but I’ve always hated trying to navigate through that maze of a place!

Sometimes we couldn’t find a way out!!

I am SO glad I’m not the only one with a pile of unread magazines. I want to read them, I do, but I haven’t had a chance. 😉 I love me some IKEA–while their furniture isn’t exactly, um, heirloom quality, some of it is really cute and I LOVE their storage options. I really really need to get up there! 😉

I am going for my first time on Friday. We are planning to get a lot of furniture for the baby and for books– I know I will probably come out with way more. 🙂

I totally agree. Our Ikea is less than 45 mins away and I’m always itching to go, but have to restrain myself. It’s been over 6 months since my last trip though, so I am trying to convince hubby to go with me over the weekend!

When we drive to Utah for IKEA, we always feel like each person should have their own car. But you know, I guess dropping a boat load at IKEA once a year max evens out with the little mini trips I’d take throughout the year. Next August. Next August!

I have those green boxes, too. I love them!! And I totally agree. I don’t have easy access to IKEA either and so when I go I feel that I need to get it all. At least it is economical.

Agreed…we have one about 45 min away so I have to try to only go when I need something!

Totally agree! And I really love those green containers. I bought some for our living room, even though green totally doesn’t work with the rest of the decor. I love green!

I agree! I’m hoping to “run-in” (ha!) this weekend as we pass our ikea on a little road trip. My mom and I spent two hours searching the website/catalog yesterday for craft room furniture.

Mine is only about a half hour away but it’s off of a notoriously congested highway so that keeps me from going every other week. On the other hand, I have those storage boxes in orange and I love! ha, how much fun were they to put together? I wanted to shoot myself by the 4th one…out of say…12.
