Blue Ball jar snow scenes and origami stars

December 2, 2013 by Kim Woodward

It’s MONDAY! And that means it’s time to see all your amazing projects for DARE TO ENTERTAIN! See? We’re giving you a reason to love Mondays. You’re welcome.

Here are the four leading ladies to get us kicked off in style. I love the co-hosts!
Dare to Entertain

(Festive VW bus place cards via Decor and the Dog, Kraft paper runner and table via Maybe Matilda (TODAY’S HOSTESS), Blue Ball jar snowscapes via NewlyWoodwards, Gilded animal place cards via Primitive and Proper)

So, first I’ll share my project for the week. I started with my new barn wood striped table runner and wanted to stick with the yellow and blue theme for my dining room. (The normal reds and greens just don’t seem at home in there.)

I have seen these little winterscapes all over blogs the past few years and since I already had a small collection of vintage blue Ball jars and trees from my village, I thought it would be perfect.

This project is ridiculously simple. Add your trees. Add faux snow.

Then, I just used sticky tack to attach a battery operated tea light to the top of the jar.

At night, it makes the little jars glow. If I were doing it again, I’d try to find something a little brighter. This angle makes them look a little goofy, but you get the idea.

I would love to find some little deer to add in there, but I haven’t had any luck yet. Around the jars, I added the pine cones I painted last year in a blinding yellow. I still love those little things and think they add a nice pop of color.

To take the table settings up a notch, I made four origami stars with yellow glitter scrapbook paper (the paper actually served as place mats for last year’s Dare to DIY). If I were actually entertaining, they’d be perfect for place cards with a small little tag. I also think they’ll be adorable on the tree. (Tutorial and free printable available at Better Homes and Gardens.)

Place Setting with Star1

(And because I know you are going to ask – the table settings are Fiestaware and they were a gift from my parents five or so years ago. I’m obsessed with them. They are typically available at Younkers and sell out quickly every year.)

So that’s how I Dared to DIY this year for our holiday table. It’s getting me in the mood to entertain. Who wants to come over? I’ll provide the table. You bring dinner. And dessert.

So cute! Where do you find your faux trees? The ones I stumble upon are always so expensive.
