You know those thing you pinned five years ago and then never actually got around to doing?
Come on. I know I’m not the only one who pins projects all the time and then doesn’t follow through on 99 percent of them.
I think I have five or six button art projects pinned on Pinterest (shameless plug – follow me here). But even after three years of monthly craft nights and hundreds of other crafts completed, I never got around to it.
Until now.
And now I’m a button art making machine. I’m like Oprah throwing buttons at people.
“You get a button! You get a button! You all get buttons!”
I chose button art for our last family crafternoon. Yes. We have a monthly family crafternoon now.
Because there should always be a chance to get together with my cousins, gram and aunts for food and creative endeavors. We hosted at my house when my cousin was in town, and we all got in on the button making action.

For this project, I picked up several multi-packs of 11×14 flat canvases at Michaels. We painted the canvases and then added buttons into a design. (My grandma and aunt brought the majority of the buttons from their stash – and there were some really awesome old buttons in there that made the projects extra special.)
This was my first stab at the button canvas – a nice reminder for my 2016 kindness campaign. It’s been hanging out in my kitchen for the time being.
And then I was on a roll, so I created a Christmas tree from the plethora of ivory and mother-of-pearl buttons.
I’m not the only one obsessed with button art. Henry also wanted in on the action. This is his artistic interpretation of “moon.”
There is nothing difficult to this craft, which makes it awesome. We would loosely outline what we wanted and then fill in with buttons. We used Tacky Glue and let it lay flat to dry overnight. We found it works best to start with the big ones and then fill in with tiny buttons.
Everything has stayed really well after it fully dried.
My grandma left the giant box of buttons in my care, so now I just have to make button art for every holiday.
