Cut a rug

November 11, 2009 by Kim Woodward

We added a new (to us) rug into the living room this week. I kinda love it.

It’s actually a carpet remnant that Ryan’s parents had made into a rug for their living room. When they replaced it, they gave it to us. We had to get it cut down quite a bit because our living room is much smaller, but it’s a nice change. For next-to-nothing, we had someone come to the house, cut it and bind it.

For us, rugs are a necessity. They protect the floor and keep our feet warm on the hardwoods. This one is extra nice because it’s extra plush, perfect for winter.

In case you are keeping track, this is hand-me-down rug #3 in the living room. They were all tan. We’re nothing if not predictable. We like hand-me-downs and we like tan.

This is rug #1 (without any furniture). It was wool, too small for the room and it shed like CRAZY.

This is rug #2 (and an old layout). It lasted for almost 2 years, but it was getting a little worn.

So, I think that our newest rug is a good addition. Someday, we may even buy our own rug. But, don’t count on it. I’ve been trying to find the perfect rug for our kitchen for ages. Still nothing.

What do you think?

It looks so great! Rugs are hard to commit to. They look nice in the store or online, but what if you get them home and they’re all wrong? They weight a ton, they’re unwieldy, and shipping is astronomical. Scary. I wish somebody would save me hundreds of dollars and the hassle of making a decision. Lucky girl!

Looks good. I’ve been looking for a rug to give my feet a warm place to land when getting out of bed in the morning. I started the search 4 years ago. opps. 🙂

It’s beautiful! I esp. love the subtle texture. You could have put down a layer of dirt & I would still love it b/c you would have done it w/ style, as always.

Our LR rug is a piece of remnant that was bound too! SO worth it.

Great idea to have the carpet cut and bond to size. It adds just the right touch to your cozy room.

It looks great- very cushy and warm. Perfect for curling up with Twilight on a rainy day!

Looks great! I love hand-me-downs. We wouldn’t have half of our living room furniture without them.

Kim, I love it! I makes the room look so cozy; I just want to sink into your couch, take my shoes off and wiggle my toes in that shag!
Don’t worry, I showered and washed my feet today. 🙂 And I live too far away to stop by with my toes.

Looks so cozy and warm for winter. i almost bought a rug for the living room the other day, but then I chickened out. I have such rug-buying fear.

Yay! I really like it- is it kind of shaggy? It looks that way. We have one that looks similar in our living room, except we also need a bigger one.

I forgot you can have carpet remnants cut and bound. Thanks for the reminder. It looks great! You’re very lucky to have in-laws with good taste and a revolving selection of decor!
