Clean water for all (with your help)

November 7, 2014 by Kim Woodward

Well water. It’s a new beast for us at the barn. I’ve taken water for granted before. But now I know what it takes to get water.

A lot of money. A lot of work. A lot of technology.

And let’s be honest – it’s pretty easy for us. We made some calls. Filled out some paperwork. Wrote the check.

But let’s think outside of my world. What if my only source of water was a dirty puddle miles away from home? That’s exactly how it is for millions of people, but it doesn’t have to be this way.

We can help bring clean water to the world.

Did you know 4,500 children die every day due to water-related illness? And that nearly 1.1 billion people in this world are without the very basic necessity of clean water?

Water gives people dignity. It also can help end violence and improve health and education.  And just $15 can help provide clean water for one person in Uganda.

We truly can help. And that’s why a wonderful local group of women started Water Party 2014.

I love it when people make a huge difference – I love it when awesome women do awesome things. That’s exactly what my friend Leslie and her sister-in-law Tesi are doing with their sixth annual Water Party. This grassroots even has raised over $70,000 over the past five years.

$70,000. That’s what a lot of work and passion can do. And that’s a lot of people with clean water.

I love that.

How to help if you are local.

The event is local and for those in the Quad Cities, you do not want to miss it. Wine, crepes, music, fun…  it’s truly going to be epic and you don’t want to miss it. (Get your tickets here.)

How to help if you aren’t local.

Just because you aren’t in the area doesn’t mean you cannot help.

Make a donation or buy a raffle ticket (or three, like me) to win a Jason Wu clutch. This bag is a $1295 value and tickets are only $10 each.

100 percent of donations go to repairing fresh water wells in Uganda through The Adventure Project. (The Adventure Project trains and supports a local well mechanic to get water running in one community. This party alone has  trained 60 well mechanics in the past two years.)

I’m so inspired by the work that these women (mostly moms) are doing.

Will you please take a moment and support this amazing cause?

I hope you can spring for a raffle ticket. I’d love to see them sell tons of them. (But I’d also love to win. ;))
