Call me Susie…

October 16, 2009 by Kim Woodward

Susie Homemaker
I love this retro apron via BH&G
I think I may need to try to make one. Has anyone made an apron before? I’m not very confident in my sewing abilities, but Better Homes and Gardens says it’s easy for a beginner sewer. And I did make a poorly-constructed pillow cover.
Thoughts?
And, I’m definitely picking up a pair of red peep-toes to wear with the apron. It will be perfect for when Im cleaning the house and making a homemade dinner… with a twinkle in my eye.
But, seriously – wouldn’t this make a great gift? (After I make one for myself, of course.)

I love that Apron – not sure I would remember to wear it (I never do) but I love it.

You know, I bet you could do a no sew version with fusible webbing. I’d cut my fabric ties and apron in a “T” using the full 54″ width, then fuse all the edges, then fuse the second fabric on top, then trim it with ribbon. Give it a go ! And use some really cute Amy Butler or Heather Bailey print. Fabulous ! Do you want to do this project together ? I’d be happy to hop on board with you and do a feature next week.

And yes, you must have the red peep toes, click them together in your new apron, and say ‘There’s No Place Like Home’. Photo op !

You never know unless you try, and just think, they would make great gift ideas! Good luck!

CUTE!!! I’m no master sewer, but I did manage to follow a whole apron pattern last year here:

It is the first sewing project I did that I was happy with!

I think it’s adorable, but I’m definitely not confident enough in my sewing skills to make one. Hope you do though! 🙂

I think that if you can make a pillow, you could make an apron. Why not try..it certainly couldn’t hurt.

And I love the peep-toe shoe idea, complete with eye twinkle! 😉

Aprons are pretty easy I had to make one in 7th grade home econ so I think your sewing skills will easily be able to handle the task!

So cute!! And yes, you can definately make an apron. I’ve done a couple and they are pretty straight forward.

So, spend your weekend fabric shopping and start sewing!

The hardest part will be gathering the material at the bottom, but there’s a trick to make that easy. It’s much easier to explain in person than over the Internet. We’ll chat at book club.

But as long as you take plenty of time cutting to make sure everything is the right size to start with, then this project should be pretty easy to do. That’s the biggest mistake beginner sewers make. They want to get to the sewing so they hurry through the cutting and marking and then wonder why the pieces don’t fit together right.

I would definitely wear that, too cute! I don’t even cook and I would wear that 🙂

I am in love! Due to an unfortunate incident, I am now sans apron, so I would love to make one, also. Was there a pattern or something on BHG’s site?
