Blogging. It’s an odd thing. When I started NewlyWoodwards in 2008, I truly thought that I was a genius.

I mean, I was going to start an online place to write about being newlyweds and renovating our house and “WOWOHMYGOODNESS, I’m such a genius. No one has ever done that before.”

Then, I posted a few times. And would you believe it? No one besides our moms read it. (Thanks, moms.)

Then, I realized that there were even a few other (seriously awesome) blogs out there already. Lots of people stole my awesome idea to have a blog before I could even do it!

(Kidding. About the last part. I did actually think I was a genius before I started this blog. I didn’t know that other blogs even existed.)

Fast forward almost five years. NewlyWoodwards has become this awesome part of our lives. I’ve been able to document our lives, our renovations, our first years of marriage, our attempts at new projects, and our foray into parenthood. We’ve been able to meet seriously awesome people. Online, and even multiple times in person. I’ve learned so much. And I’ve even been able to make a little cash in the process. (Thanks for clicking those ads. Hugs to all.)

All of this to say, the blog has really changed and grown in five years. And I’m so thankful for everyone who visits here on a regular basis.

And now, the blog has brought this scary, awesome, crazy proposition.

I am teaching a real, live class about blogging for beginners.

Me?

This is (one of) the scary thing(s) I’m doing that is totally outside my comfort zone for this month. When I was asked to teach the community class at a local college over the summer by Amy, a cool local gal who reads NewlyWoodwards, it seemed very far away. And even though I wondered if I was really qualified and felt pretty insecure, I said yes.

And then a few friends gave me questioning looks and comments, like “Who in the world would ever take that class?”

So, yeah. That helped me feel better about it.

But, people actually did sign up. Which is sort of crazy. And scary. And cool. (And thanks especially to my super supportive friend Laura at Sometimes Crafty for sharing the class with some friends who signed up.)

All that to say, I’m teaching a class on blogging.

I plan to cover the very basics of starting a blog – how to get started, hosting options, content ideas, promotion and even a little on advertising.

And if you are local and are interested in taking a class from little old me about blogging, I hope you’ll join me.

And if you aren’t local or aren’t interested, that’s okay, too. I just thought I’d be remiss not to mention it and to ask for your support. I’m feeling proud that I took on an opportunity that is a bit out of my comfort zone.

Now, I’d better get back to planning the presentation. Because I’d prefer to not embarrass myself too much.

No promises. I once “rose the roof” (with motions) in a business meeting. I don’t always make good decisions.

I think what everyone discovers once they get started as is that as much as it’s about writing about whatever you’re writing about it, there’s an amazing community out there to connect with.   11. Congratulations Kim. Honestly, I can’t imagine that there is anyone out there who would make a better teacher than you!! And…..just so you know….I had never read any blog until you started Newlywoodwards. I’m pretty sure that I have told you in the past; reading your blog is part of my morning routine. Keep up the great work and Good Luck teaching. You WILL be great 🙂
