B-E-R-R-Y, you ain’t got no alibi…

June 10, 2010 by Kim Woodward

Our garden has been overgrown with these gorgeous, petite, red little things. And we’re not complaining.

Actually, it’s more like we’re bragging.

Ryan’s been harvesting them, and I would estimate that he has picked about two cups of ripe berries every other night for the past three weeks. I’d say we’ve harvested around 14 cups of strawberries so far this season. And, they’re far from done.

They are definitely a bit smaller than those we would buy at the store, and tarter. But, they are so juicy and red. Very yummy!

We’ve already eaten our weight in strawberries, and now we’re beginning to freeze them. To do this, we just clean them, lay them on a cookie sheet so they aren’t touching and quick-freeze them. Once they are frozen, we put them into a gallon freezer bag. This is such a great way to do it, because then they are individually-frozen and won’t stick together.

Who wants to come over for strawberry smoothies?

I was about to say the same thing Nicole. When you’re making jam you’re adding sugar anyway, so the tartness won’t matter. Totally jealous! 😉

I don’t know Kim, smoothies sound a little healthy for my taste. Let’s say you whip up some fresh whipped cream, make me a pound cake and top it with those berries and I’ll be waiting on your front steps when you get home from work.
