A twin chevron zig zag quilt

June 7, 2013 by Kim Woodward

Subtitle: You wish your friends were as awesome as mine.

I keep meaning to show you Henry’s newest quilt for his bedroom. And this one is my favorite because it was made by my friends!

I’m part of a small group of women who meet to sew occasionally on Friday nights. It’s pretty informal, but it’s a fun way to work on projects and catch up with friends. I hadn’t been in a while and my friend Stephanie messaged me and asked if I could come a few weeks ago. When I got there, there was a big box with this gorgeous quilt in it.Chevron quilt blue and white3

They had been working on it when Henry was born early. Each of the girls made some of the squares with blue and white fabric. Then Stephanie pieced the top and quilted it and my friend Heather added the binding. Talk about a labor of love! And what a surprise to receive such a thoughtful gift a year later. It’s perfect for the twin bed in Henry’s room. Chevron quilt blue and white2

The cool part is that I had really wanted a chevon/zig zag quilt for this bed when I was massively pregnant, and my sit n’ sew buddies had told me not to make one. (Sneaky little ladies – they were making one.) I didn’t listen and ended up making a small version. But, it’s a crib size and this one is so much more beautiful. A true heirloom for us.Chevron quilt blue and white1

They even stitched in a tag.

I was a bit excited.

I’m constantly reminded of how many fabulous women friends friends I have. And how important it is to have them. Not because of gifts (although that’s quite lovely, obviously). But because female friends care about you and are truly always there.

Are you loving this as much as I am?
