4 ways to display photos and holiday cards this year

Do you need a simple way to display holiday cards and photos at Christmas? Try one of these simple ideas.

Are you amazed by the sheer speed of the holiday season?

Gifts to buy. Trees to decorate. Stockings to fill. Parties to host.

I love it all. I do.

But, it’s about more than all the STUFF and FLUFF, my friends. You know that. I know that.

So while I love decorating our home, I also try to bring some personal touches and reminders of what this is really about – including time and memories with family and friends.

And that’s exactly why I like to integrate photos and holiday cards into our seasonal decor. Here are four different ways we display them in our home this year. (And most of these ideas are so simple, you could do them in your home lickety-split with no added stress to you.)

1. Create a HOLIDAY family photo display.

You probably have photos of your family up around your home all year. That’s great.

But, try creating a little photo display of photographs from each and every Christmas. This is especially a great tradition with kids, because they grow so much and you’ll be amazed they were every that little. (SOB!)

This year, I set up our display in our antique secretary.

You could do them all in the same format – but, I like the variety of different poses, types of prints, and even number of people.

I don’t worry about all the photos being exactly the same or perfect. There’s no pressure or rules – except that I find at least one photo I like each year and have it printed before I store all my holiday decor away.

2. Create holiday artwork from a photo.

Do you have a seasonal photograph you LOVE the most? Make it into artwork that you bring into your home each December.

 

In our case, I blew up a photo of my son as a baby in front of a tree. It’s one of my favorite photos, and I love seeing it on our mantel – it’s on the left side of the big piece. (Other ideas – a photo of your holiday home, tree or even snowy outdoor scenery.)

3. Make room for all the cards.

Don’t even think about shoving all those Christmas cards in a basket.

STEP. AWAY. FROM. THE. BASKET.

This is their time to SHINE. And they can actually add some extra festivity to your holiday decor with very little effort on your part. Take our DIY holiday card display we created last year. It fills up an entire wall with holiday cheer.

If you don’t have time to make a display – hang a ribbon or piece of twine and use clothespins. Don’t overthink it.

4. Display YOUR OWN Christmas card.

If you are going to send a Christmas card to your friends and family, make sure to get an extra for yourself.

I like to display our current holiday card throughout the month, and then I store it away with all of our other holiday cards we receive. (Once the holidays are over, I punch a hole in all the cards and bundle them with a large binder ring to keep them together by year. I put our card on front.)

This year, I grabbed this scrap barn beam that was in the burn pile. It was the perfect size for a little card display. I used a nativity stencil (after seeing this inspiration on Sugar Bee Crafts). There were already knots and gouges on the top to stick our card in.

The beam is thick enough that it stands on its own.

The back includes a photo of our family and a small space for a personalized message. I missed having a spot for a personal note, so I made a spot by neglecting to add a photo here. It’s a little more work, but I liked doing it.
