A Valentine’s Day advent calendar (and other craft inspiration)

January 29, 2015 by Kim Woodward

So, Christmas may be the only holiday that gets acknowledged in the barn.

Not because I don’t want to decorate for Columbus Day and National Chocolate Cake Day (seriously -it’s a thing). It’s just that I can no longer remember where anything was stored in my parents’ barn. So, I’ve given up on finding anything.

That includes Valentine’s Day.

But, I did want to assemble a little something “hearts-y” in my Advent calendar after I took down the Christmas train advent.

If there’s any time that calls for hearts and glitter, it’s Valentine’s Day.

I started with a variety of 3×4 journaling card designs from the Silhouette Design Store. These only need to be resized a bit to fit perfectly on the Silhouette Advent Calendar. And there are tons of adorable Valentine’s Day designs to choose from.

I started by resizing and printing my chosen cards on white sticker paper. (If you are interested, I did a full tutorial on using the Print and Cut feature in Silhouette Design Studio here.)

Then, I cut a piece of Kraft paper a bit larger to serve as a base.

Finally, I carefully ungrouped the different card elements in Silhouette Design Studeio to highlight with glitter.

After removing selected elements (like hearts and words), I added them to a different page and cut them from double sided adhesive.

The adhesive paper simply attaches to the top of the paper before glittering. It’s the perfect way to add a small dose of sparkle.

The new advent calendar is a perfect reminder of all the love in our lives. And the cards would also double as great Valentines for friends and family members.

My very favorite card is the “Love You More” card on the bottom right. (Henry often says, “NO. I LOVE YOU MORE,” when we tell him we love him.)

Is anyone else adding touches of Valentine’s Day decor?

(Psssst: If you want to see the projects I shared on the Silhouette blog this month – stop over to see this fun anniversary shadowbox and cell phone case.)

love it! I am generally not a valentine decor person, but I love the idea of just switching out something that’s already there instead of doing a whole new thing.
