The ‘make’ list

February 28, 2011 by Kim Woodward

I make a lot of lists. I’m type A enough that checking things off a list is a good feeling. I totally add things to lists just to check them off. (Did I just admit that?)

So, it’s no surprise that I share a lot of lists on the blog. Monthly goal lists. The house list.

Here’s another list to add to my list collection. The ‘make’ list. It’s been around since the start of the year, begging me to get started. I alluded to it in my goals for 2011. I wanted to make a list of items I want to make – particularly things that I’d like to make for Ryan and I that I never get around to.

So far, I’ve only completed one item, and then I added the Nook case to the list, since you know I like to check things off. These are items I’d like to try to make for myself and others.

Christmas projects:
Quilt and pillows for our bed
Handmade stockings

Over-the-door card holder

Fabric advent calendar with pockets
Christmas pennant quilt

Quilted tree skirt

Gifts for me and/or others:
Felted wool mittens
Straight iron carrier
Etched glass Pyrex dish
Gym bag
Kindle pocket
Yoga mat carrier
Crochet blanket
Casserole carrier and pot holders
Apron
Shopping bags
Skirt
Rug pillows
Dress
Mixer and toaster cover
Cricut carrier/ dust cover
Button art
Hoop art
Applique art
Word blocks
PJ Pants

There are three things I hope to accomplish by having this list and making things from it:
1. I have a variety of Christmas projects that I want to make. I’ve even purchased some of the supplies. But, the holiday season is so busy that I usually don’t get much finished. Then the holidays are over and I’m in no mood to do it A handful of larger Christmas projects are on this list. I’d really like to have several of them completed by November this year.
2. There are lots of small, simple projects that I find on the Internet and want to try. But, most of them never happen. I hope this list will help me organize these projects and make time to try them. If there’s something new I’d like to add, I’ll add it.
3. When I make a project, it’s undeniable easier to make it a second time. At the same time, I usually have friends or family who could use and would like items I make. So, I’m going to attempt to make duplicates of projects I work on to give as gifts this year and next Christmas.
What I don’t expect is to make everything on this list. I’m not stupid or impractical. But, I hope that having the ideas there will give me some direction. And I’d really like to try to make something every month. With that said, it’s meant to be fun and I won’t be beating myself up over the list.
So, what do you think? Do you have a make list?

I’m a totally list maker, and like you I add things just to cross off. I sometimes have a hard time keep tracking and organizing all my lists. Is that odd to admit? A friend from work calls me Double A because I’m so type A. I made a craft list last summer but totally wasn’t unrealistic and stressed myself out.

I wish I was as organized as you….mine is all a jumbly mess in my head. Hmmmm, maybe that is why I always feel behind on the projects.

I love it! I’m definitely a list-maker myself. And yes, I too write things down just so I can cross them off.

Hey, I have one of these! I’m a total type-A list maker. I keep mine in Word by category and it’s way too big for a blog post! lol 😉 I’m intrigued by some of the items on your list… Can’t wait to see the etched pyrex dish. I just etched glass for the first time ever in January and I can’t wait to see what you do with that one! 🙂

I’m a list lover too. I keep a running Word doc of links plus there’s my black and white marble copybook that I doodle and write down ideas in. I love an actual pen and paper list.

I don’t have a make list (b/c I’d lose it), but I love that idea!!! 🙂 You have a fab list going. I’m going to work on some etched glass stuff with my Silhouette. Someone linked a cute etched glass pyrex dish to my party last week and it inspired me. 🙂

    I don’t have a make list…but I think I need one!! I need to make an apron…..for watching my husband cook. 😛

Where do you do yoga at? I do it in my basement because I’m too afraid to do it in a class…

I am a list lover too!! 🙂 currently I have a ‘to do list for the week’ that I will break down as each day dawns to pick what to do that day. I am also whitteling away @ my tax prep list (ugh)

I would be lost without lists! Gah, I feel like my mother. 🙂 I’ll enjoy getting to see the fruits of your labor!

I love your sidebar monthly goal list, and this make list is a great idea too! I definitely am with you – I write things that I’ve just finished on my list just to cross them off! Makes me feel so much more productive – and after all, I’ve finished them, so why not! 🙂

Your “to make” list is a great idea. I’ve always considered my bookmarks to be my “list” but there must now be more than 200 bookmarks. It’s overwhelming. And I definitely write accomplished things on my lists just so I can cross them off. And, for some reason, it feels good to do it.

Love the “to make” list. I totally have one (in my head) and it changes a lot… I do want to make some of those awesome casserole carriers for a friend who is getting married this summer… maybe we can motivate each other? 🙂
