Do you remember my “make” list? It’s a listing of some things that I’d like to make this year. And I’ve actually done pretty well so far, making a few things already.
But one of the things on that list that has always intimidated me was clothing. I love the idea of making myself clothing, but I’ve been too scared to try.
But, this elastic waist flirty skirt from Growing Home has cured my fears of making clothing. I put together my very first skirt in the matter of an hour. And I think it’s actually wearable.
I had some cute dot fabric in my stash – Moda Bliss Dot in Scarlet – so I used that to make a knee-length skirt with a ruffled elastic waist.
I’m a big fan of the elastic waist. It’s comfortable, looks cute and was so simple to make. I had never made anything with elastic before and it was really quite simple.
And it has pockets, which makes me very happy.

Ahh! It’s adorable! I would totally wear it, I love the length you chose. It’s definitely cute for a casual brunch or work – well done.
Oh my goodness, this skirt is adorable and so are you! Look at you all polished with your cardigan, belt and skirt.
So I thought the skirt was cute, but then you revealed it had pockets? I’m about to text Shennanigans to steal it from you on her visit!

I love the skirt and love the outfit! You look great in it!
Super cute! I love the polka dot fabric and it of course looks great with the blue cardi.
Cute skirt
This makes me think of Minnie Mouse and I love it! Way to go!
That looks fantastic! Great work!
You look great! Everytime you post a sewing project I kick myself for not knowing how to sew! I love it, Kim!
ooooo! That is downright inspiring! Your outfit looks FABULOUS! Thanks, Kim!!
Love it! I really like the whole outfit- americana in a preppy way. I wish I could wear belts like that but I always feel like I look huge. I made a few skirts last month, but I made them too big in the waist (better than too small I guess).
I love it! I love that it has pockets, and it looks SO cute with the belt and cardigan! A skirt is the next thing on my to do list. I just might try this pattern.
Looks great!!
I think it’s really cute!! Great fabric choice!! 🙂
I love this! I’ve pinned to my “craftiness” board – great sewing!!
I love it! Since finding Pinterest, I have started a make list too. I love your outfit – my style completely. 🙂
Adorable skirt! I think you’re awesome at making clothes…based on your skirt. I would totally buy it!
So pretty! I love your work outfit! Makes me wish I wore “real” clothes to work 😀
I love it and I WANT ONE!!! And you look adorable, by the way. 🙂 This is on my list, too, must get cracking!
Very cute! I think elastic skirts are THE WAY to go, and especially awesome on vacation!
I love this fabric!! So fun. I was just looking at a changing pad cover (not nearly as cute and fun as this skirt!!!) for our nursery in this exact fabric. It just makes me happy!
Oh I love this so cute!!! I love the cardigan look too, can’t wait to try that out in the fall with my skirts.
Looks great, Kim! Congrats on being brave enough to take the leap into dressmaking!
So cute!! And I love your wear-to-work outfit. Totally impressed that you made that.
I love it. You go!! I think you did an awesome job. You could wear it with so many things.
I wish I was not afraid to sew but everything I sew ends up in the garbage, because I suck at it.
Awesome job!!! You will have to make more outfits now.
So, so adorable. And absolutely work appropriate–at least where I work!
Ummm, one of these days we are going to meet and have a sewing party. At this party you will sew a bunch of stuff/I will act like I’m sewing and I will take credit for all of the cool stuff you make! Great plan!
I LOVE this skirt!! And the fact that you would wear a cardigan every day makes you okay in my book! Do you purchase your fabric on the interweb or do you have a secret store in the area that I’m not aware of??
I love it!! Such a cute summer outfit!!
Totally cute! Good job!
It’s super adorable and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the work look!
I think I’m a fan of the 1″ elastic more than I would be of the slightly larger.

I am so impressed! Not just with your sewing, but with your styling. The whole outfit is totally adorable.
