A lot of people ask Ryan and I how we are going to be able to live in such a small space. And truthfully, I just don’t think we can truly understand how it will work until we are living there.
But one area I’m not worried about?
Seriously, there is plenty of storage in this space for what we need. We have a great fridge. And the kitchen truly turned out even more beautiful than I envisioned. There are still plenty of things we need to finish in this space, but it’s really feeling like a kitchen now.
I painted the cabinets in Behr Elephant Skin tinted in Behr Premium Plus Ultra Semi Gloss paint. The color is just a bit darker than the walls, which I hope provides a subtle contrast while keeping the space feeling light and breezy. This was actually a fairly quick paint job and it only took two coats.
In addition to those pretty cabinets, you may have noticed the countertops. I somehow managed to trick our friend Dave into offering to finish the countertops. They were beech and super light, so I chose a dark walnut stain. Dave stained and then finished with Waterlox. And it is smooth as butter.
I love these countertops so much, I cried when I saw them. And Ryan was confused and I tried to explain that I was just so happy. But he didn’t get it. But, guys. These countertops. I wish you could pet them. They get me totally emotional.
The opposite wall is also looking great – including the island and a double shelf for storage. The microwave will live on top of the shelves.
I picked up two cute chalkboard crates at Urban Farmhouse to start some storage area for the island. (They were actually displays, but the owner sold them to me anyways.)
There are still plenty of projects on the horizon – installing the hardware, hooking up the faucet and disposal … Oh yeah, I guess we need a stove, too. It will take the spot of the record player. Because despite what my husband tells you, the record player is not staying in the barn. No room for a record player. Sorry, Charlie.
But as you can see, I did make time for the barn wood cow and pot of fake grass. Because I have priorities.
So, that’s a pretty darn near finished tiny kitchen for you.
And I’m getting teary just writing about it. Look at me, getting all verklempt.
Talk amongst yourselves.
I’ll give you a topic.
Do you love as much as I do?
Thanks to Behr for providing the paint for this project. And thanks to you for supporting brands that sponsor NewlyWoodwards and make posts like this possible.
