You had me at "cocktail"

May 14, 2009 by Kim Woodward

Better Homes and Gardens Rocks.

There, I said it.
They send the niftiest things into my inbox everyday. (If you aren’t signed up for all their email newsletters, you are missing out.)
But, today took the cake. Or should I say, the cocktail. Today, I saw that they have a garden plan for a Cocktail Garden.

I did a double take. Then, I wiped my eyes. “I must be dreaming,” I thought. “This is only a mirage.”
But, no. The plan is for a bona-fide garden to make killer cocktails.
And, I felt pretty exuberant when I saw the plants it included, because many of them are already in our garden, our yard or our pots on the deck:
  • Lemon balm
  • Lavender
  • Marigold
  • Chives
  • Mint
  • Basil
  • Tomato
And, the sad souls that didn’t make the cut in the garden this year:
  • Golden delicious pineapple sage
  • Lime
  • Strawberry
Go to BH&G to find out how to use these plants for cocktails. You will be glad you did. Trust me.
All this excitement makes me very curious to find lots of ways to use my own herbs for cocktails. I’ll fill you in after extensive research.
What do you think? Would you love yourself a cocktail garden?

You are too funny. I hope you’ll be able to enjoy your plants as drinks. Maybe next year you can add the others.

Would I love a cocktail garden?! Does Lindsay Lohan need to go to rehab?! Wait, bad example……

This garden idea brings me one step closer to justifying that cocktails CAN be part of the food pyramid.
