Where are you Thanksgiving?

November 4, 2015 by Kim Woodward

Sorry to say it, but I’ve moved on beyond Thanksgiving.

Go ahead. Gasp and whisper about how I’m being BLASPHEMOUS in the name of all things turkey and dressing. Tell me how I should really wait until Black Friday to think about Christmas trees and twinkle lights.

I really actually don’t care.

Just checked. Still don’t care.

I just ordered lighted wreaths for all of our windows on the new house. (Gawwww I can’t wait.) Since we won’t be moved in in time to decorate for the holidays, I’m going to deck the outside of the house instead.

And since it’s been 75 degrees here this week, I’m thinking about starting to put up the lights on the barn. (Except for the front peak, which I will kindly leave for Ryan since I fell off the ladder last year.)

And I hung this fabulous Christmas countdown above from my friend Jen at Onion Grove Mercantile. I had to take down the Halloween banner, so it was obviously meant to be.

And when my friend mentioned she was going to be in a holiday tour of homes, I asked if I could help her and if she wanted to use all my holiday decorations that are in storage.

And because she doesn’t yet realize how annoying I will be, she said yes.

So, now I’m going through my old decor posts to remember what I actually have in storage. I cannot wait to break open the boxes. Can. Not. Wait. A few very select things will make it into the barn, and then I hope to bring over more of the boxes to my friend’s house.

Top of the list: The silver tree. Which I love with my whole achey breaky heart. The fact that I couldn’t put this up last year nearly did me in. I considered sleeping on the floor and getting rid of our bed for the month of December just to make room. Ryan vetoed. Such a Scrooge.

Second up: My traditional red tree decor. I love the depth of this tree – tulle and lights and red berries and bows and flowers.

Next up: The village. Which has grown exponentially because my mom agreed to give me her collection. It only took 10 years of nagging. I mean, asking. Nicely. I may actually clear off all my shelves to put these up this year in the barn. If I am feeling extra crazy one day. (The odds are ever in your favor.)

And finally … the dishes. Good Lord, I love these dishes.  These will definitely make an appearance at the barn again this year.

So skipping Thanksgiving, it just works for me.

But that doesn’t mean I won’t be gobbling down some grub in a few weeks. Save me some green bean casserole and nobody gets hurt.

Have you been looking ahead to Christmas?

I love this post! Yes, full steam ahead to Christmas! I’m all for it! Of course, I’ve been listening to Christmas music for the last 4 weeks, so I’m a little biased in this area.

Yay! I turned some holiday music on this weekend. Just felt right.

I would hate to be a nag, but did you ever do the giveaway for the IL lottery? ?

Couldn’t agree more! I do like Thanksgiving BUT (that’s a big bold but) Christmas is where it’s at, especially since we have kids. I want the whole season to be magical and the more special touches we add, talk about and carry out the more magical it is for our kids. They’ll never get that time back so as parents we need to start thinking and organizing now! Glad you spoke up because I’m too afraid of the haters.

I would normally be so against this, but for the first year ever I’m so ready for Christmas. I even listened to Christmas music twice in the last week. I mean who am I?? What’s happening to me?

I love the dishes! Where did you get them from? I also love the fact that you went straight to Christmas. I have as well- but I know folks around me think it is TERRIBLE! Oh well, I love it 🙂

They are by Fiestaware and are always released around the holidays at department stores like Younkers. I see them every year. They are an investment, but they are great Fiesta quality and look amazing year after year.

These adorable bowls are what brought me to your website. They’re so cute. I designed a similar dish years ago for my Christmas table, that I now sell in my Etsy store. If you don’t want to invest a ton (with fiesta ware) I might have something there.

BTW, I have to agree about not waiting until Black Friday to start my Christmas Season. I know a lot of people don’t agree with me and tell “one Holiday at a time”, but Thanksgiving is a day (to me anyway) and Christmas is a Season. I don’t like the idea of cramming the entire season in 3 weeks. To me, that just brings on the stress! Who says we can’t enjoy both at the same time?? Enjoy your Holidays!

I love your version – I just checked out your Etsy store. And there’s just something about the vintage colored bulbs.

Thanks, I never get tired of painting this design. I too love the vintage, fat bulbs.

Thanks for checking out my page.

Happy Turkey Day and Merry Christmas!

If you don’t mind sharing, where did you order the lighted window wreaths from? I have always wanted to get some, but found them to be too expensive to order as many as we need. Thanks!

I got them at Home Depot online. I wanted something with battery powered lights that had a built in timer. They weren’t super inexpensive but it was worth it for the lights.
