In our Zone 5 land, blooms are just starting to show their pretty little faces. And, I decided to tempt fate (and the frost-free date) and plant all our annuals, veggies and herbs this weekend.
That is right – 2 weeks before the experts say it’s totally safe. I’M A REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE, PEOPLE.
And, even though the dying tulips make me sad…
These annuals make me smile. Simply potted in painted tin cans.
And, my salvia also bloomed this weekend.
And, even though the window boxes look a little sad, I know they will perk right up with a little more sun. (And, I think that another potato vine or two will really put it over the edge.)

I love watching the yard bloom throughout the year. It has begun.
(Update tomorrow on the veggie and herb garden. Try not to lose sleep.)

siigghh I just love salvia! you’re way ahead of me and it’s practically summer here. my pansies are dying in the heat – I think it’s time to put them out of their misery! the lantana is coming up underneath them anyway …

This is so unfair. I’m also zone 5 and my salvia isn’t blooming yet. Neither are my irises or lilac. I put some peppers in the ground Saturday and my mom made me so doubtful they would live that I took them back inside again. I’m not brave like you! ha

I did the same thing (although I might have planted more than three weeks early) then we had a frost/freeze warning last week. But everything survived. Whew! I’m seeing so many things in your garden I want to copy–especially your red cans on the fence. Did you leave them up over winter or do you bring them in? They look brand new!
