We’re in (and we still have a million things to do)

My entire body hurts. My mind is racing. But we have officially moved into the new house.

To say I’m excited would be the understatement of the century. Ecstatic, giddy and obsessed are three other words.

Also tired. And sore.

Before you ask, the answer is yes. There are still approximately 1.2 million things to finish at the house for it to be “finished.” But we moved in anyhow because I was going insane and could no longer stand the wait.

Patience has never been a strength.

Once the carpet went in, I started mentally arranging furniture and unpacking boxes. I just needed everyone else on board.

Namely Ryan. Who thought we should probably do silly things like hook up the water heater first.

Men.

On Friday afternoon, my dad brought over a jam-packed trailer of all our stuff that’s been in storage. That was the bulk of our furniture, kitchen stuff, linens and decorative items. Ryan’s parents also brought over more furniture (and help). We loaded everything in and began cleaning and unpacking.

After 18 months in storage, almost everything needed a solid wash-down. Unfortunately, our kitchen sink hot water wasn’t hooked up (we were STILL waiting on our dishwasher, which is a story for another day). So my dedicated momma washed everything in the bathtub while my mother-in-law and I unpacked boxes.

I mostly just ran around like a chicken with my head cut off. Which is similar to any other day in my household.

All in all, it was quite possibly our easiest move ever. Partially because so much stuff was in storage and I had gone through (and downsized and compacted) boxes for the yard sale. And more importantly, because my dad loaded up everything himself into the trailer. So we only had to deal with unloading.

By Friday night, we had most of our furniture in place. But I still needed to launder all the bedding and finish some other stuff up, so we slept in the barn that night and then woke up on Saturday morning and hit it hard. I washed all the laundry, unpacked box after box, and began the (much slower, more annoying) process of boxing up and bringing over our stuff in the barn.

You’d THINK that being only 320 square feet would mean that this would go quickly. But you would be wrong. Because I had every nook and cranny packed. Packed. To. The. Brim. I could load 5 or 6 tubs into the Gator and then drive them all over. Over and over. Repeat.

By the end of Saturday, I had almost everything out of the barn kitchen and bathroom and stored in the new house. Although that’s also a lie, because we haven’t moved our clothes over yet. Because our closets don’t have clothes rods. Which are sort of necessary to hang clothes.

Priorities, people. We have decorations but no clothes rods. Priorities.

So, Saturday night was the first night in our new bedrooms. And Henry and I were both just too excited to sleep.  Henry literally couldn’t stop telling me how excited he was. Couldn’t stop talking.

Then, when I got into bed, I felt the same way. And when we woke up and ate breakfast at a DINING ROOM TABLE again after 18 months without space for all of us to sit down.

It was surreal.

Over 4 years since buying the property, 2 years since designing the house plan and 1 year of construction. We have a house. And I’m just pinching myself that we get to live here.

(Forever. Because I’m never moving again. Hold me to it.)
