Thrifty Pretties

April 8, 2009 by Kim Woodward

So, I have a major love for the Goodwill Store and Salvation Army. There are several stores in my area, and I go to the all. I don’t always buy. Many times I don’t find anything. But, some of my favorite house items are from Salvation Army and Goodwill.

Case in point – the dresser.
After hitting Goodwill yesterday, I was thinking about why I love these stores so much. Some of it is cost (usually lower) and some of it is that I like the fact that I’m continuing the life of items that could have ended up in the garbage (it IS easy being green). But, I decided that it’s mostly the surprise element.
You just never know what you will stumble across. Something you needed or something you didn’t know you needed until you saw it.
With that, here are this week’s finds from Goodwill.

The pail on the left is a heavy-duty pail that I’m planning to use for kitchen composting, once I get started. I was pretty jazzed when I saw it cause I have had my eye on this one from gardeners.com.

Yeah… I’m pretty sure it’s identical. But, at only $2.79, mine was a much better deal.
I also had to have the little white dish. I think it will look so cute on our extra bedroom dresser.
So, what do you think of my latest finds? And, how do you feel about thrift shopping at Salvation Army and Goodwill?

Personally, I love a good thrift store shopping! The problem is, you can’t go often because then you are looking at the same things. I always find something I need to get and inevitably it’s like $0.59. Love that price!

Your pieces you picked up are great! I love the white compost bucket! Such a bargin!

I wish our GW was as much of a goldmine as yours, K! Instead I have to rely on Home Goods. Their prices don’t comapare but it’s way better than paying full price!

I love your finds. Great treasures!

My kids and I LOVE Goodwill too. We went on Saturday and scored a kid-sized pinball machine and a pink Illini sweatshirt for Ella. Both were practically new and … practically free.

    Nice finds!

I like thrift shopping for decor items, but not so much clothes. Something about wearing other people’s clothes freaks me out.

Those are some great finds! I love thrift stores too, but I haven’t been in a while. Well, I did go a few weeks ago to donate some of my stuff. 🙂

I love to thrift shop. When i get off early or take a day we are always going to thrift shops, yard sales, or estate sales. Some of my best pieces were only $2.00

Wow – those are in great shape and so chic! Can you believe I have never been thrift shopping before? And I literally work less than a block away from a Salvation Army. Looks like I am really missing out!
