The happiest Easter

April 3, 2013 by Kim Woodward

Seriously, holidays with kids are rad. I have always been a fan of any cause for celebration. But with Henry around, holidays are taken to a whole new level of fun.

Starting with the Easter outfit. My buddies Michelle and Cindy helped me pick out the perfect outfit – seersucker blazer and matching hat, redish-coral chinos, blue collared shirt. Bam. Then, I picked up a pair of ridiculous matching Cole Haan shoes at Von Maur for more than is reasonable. Best. Easter. Outfit. Ever. I made Henry wear that blazer pretty much all weekend.

My mom arrived home to spend the week with us. Okay. Mostly with Henry. We were just along for the ride. I think Henry was pleased with the arrangement.

Moving on to the Easter bunny. It’s been a while since it was considered appropriate for me to sit on the Easter Bunny’s lap. But with my mom and Henry in-tow, we hit the mall to share this rite of passage with him. I am fairly certain the Easter Bunny was a stoned 18-year-old hippie. Don’t ask me why I say that. Also, Henry was unimpressed. But it made for a great, $25 photo.

And there were outings. We got to see the chickens at Miss Effie’s farm and bring home some fresh eggs. I love this lady. You must visit her. I love this one because Henry looks like he’s giving her the stare-down. But he was actually watching the chickens.

We went to the park on a beautiful, spring-like Good Friday. I think that mandatory three-day weekends every week would be good for our health. Who’s with me?

Then there’s the basket. Or in our case, the bucket. I made a quick little liner for the bucket that Henry’s room Christmas tree was in. It was not pretty up close, but worked just fine. And it kept me from buying another basket. I filled it with plastic eggs (which he loved) filled with puffs (which he loves). Then, I added a few small books, a giggling stuffed toy and a ukelele from The Land of Nod. The guitar is his new favorite toy, which I am thrilled about. He has been obsessed with Ryan’s guitar since he was teeny, so I was hoping he’d take to having his own, safer version of the instrument. Now, he crawls over to his toys and goes immediately for his guitar. Adorable.

We spent a very nice Saturday afternoon with Ryan’s parents, brother and sister-in-law, niece and grandma. The kiddos got plenty of attention, toys and goldfish-filled eggs.

Then on Sunday, I hosted lunch at our house for our parents and my brother. Which was quite fun. I really love hosting holidays. Mostly so I can cook whatever I like (bruschetta chicken, asparagus, carrot cake cupcakes) and get fresh flowers and decorate.

Henry’s Uncle Ky Ky Rena even got him his own golf set. So far, golf prodigy he is not. But there is still time.

I also ended up with a new sofa and rug on Easter, which is sort of out of the ordinary. More on that later. (If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you already got a sneaky peeky.)

Unfortunately, Henry ended the holiday weekend with another cold  (as evidenced by his running nose in all these pictures) and two nasty teeth popping through. Not pleased. But, that didn’t damper our holiday spirit. I’m calling this our best Easter ever. Signed, sealed and delivered.

How was your Easter?

    1. That outfit is THE CUTEST. You can’t go wrong with seersucker. Well, you probably can if you’re like 84 and wearing a seersucker jumpsuit. Or any age other than baby and wearing a seersucker jumpsuit.
    2. I’m pretty sure being an 18 year-old druggie is a requirement for being hired as an Easter Bunny. Every bunny we’ve seen is completely creepy.
    3. I keep thinking I am following your blog and then am not. Must work on this.

I couldn’t agree more. Holidays with kids are just better. It was Max’s first Easter too. Henry is just too cute. Like I’m on cute overload right now because you had to put him in that jacket.

    That mason jar centerpiece?! LOVE!

That blazer is so amazing, Henry is too cute in it.

And yes, 3 day weekends should be mandatory. I am convinced you need one day for rest, one day to clean/grocery shop and one day for something fun.

Holidays are sooooo much better with kids. We didn’t make it to see the (creepy) easter bunny, I kind of feel bad, just for the lost photo. Love Henry’s outfit!
