Super simple homemade cards and going outside your crafting comfort zone

May 16, 2013 by Kim Woodward

I have always had good intentions to make homemade cards. Over the years, I’ve accumulated a variety of cardstock, scrapbook paper and cards for parties and other crafting endeavors. So, why didn’t I make my cards? Mostly laziness and insecurity that my cards wouldn’t be as good as a store-bought.

No more!

When I read this great post with six easy designs for homemade cards at His and Hers, it was like the lightbulb went on. I can do this, I thought to myself.

(See full post at His and Hers)

So for Mother’s Day, I made some cards for the grandmas. They were seriously quick and simple and they turned out really cute (if I do say so myself).

Mother's Day Card homemade1

I had come across this sentiment on Pinterest a while ago and it tickled my funny bone. And it’s perfect for cards from Henry, since he’s clearly the favorite of all. Next time, I’ll add a layer of scrapbook paper to the full card, but I’m still happy with how it turned out. And grandmas liked it, too.

So, this is just a simple encouragement to try new craft. Maybe you’ll find that it’s actually kind of fun to go outside your crafting comfort zone.

So, are you a paper crafter? What crafts have you shied away from?

    Very cute!

I hate paper crafting. Mainly because I don’t want to turn into my mother. 😉

Love that card! I’ve never made any cards, but you might have convinced me to give it a try in the future! 🙂

What a fabulous card! The sentiment says it all, so simple embellishments work great. A friend actually teaches a card making class. Great fun!

It turned out really cute! I loved that post by Erin. I have also always wanted to do home made cards but have yet to try.

That same post inspired me to make my sister’s graduation party invitations! I’ll be sharing those tomorrow!

I always have good intentions for homemade cards too… but now that my little boy’s gotten big enough to work with crayons, I just plop a blank piece of paper in front of him and call it a day! Love it!

The card you made is so sweet! I haven’t made cards yet, but almost always DIY invites. So far I’ve DIY our wedding invites / baby shower invites / birthday party invites etc. I just lvoe being able to pick my won wording and font & colors and add in the perfect envelopes from The Paper Source! So much fun…

Stamping and scrapbooking used to be my main craft and I have all of the supplies to show for it. Now that I do more sewing those have fallen a bit by the wayside. I still love to give homemade cards, though. These are great because it is always awesome to have a starting point to jump off from. I have them pinned for future card making. Thanks for sharing.
And I love that saying on your cards. 🙂
