Renovation progress report – week 53

August 11, 2011 by Kim Woodward

Last week, we shared the downstairs progress on our renovation in the first year. This week, we are moving upstairs to see the progress there.

We’ll be back to our regular-scheduled programming about renovation progress next week. And at some point, we’ll probably wrap it up because there won’t be as much going on weekly. But for now, going up.

Our bedroom will be the back bedroom in the house, and it’s quite huge. It’s about three times the size of our current bedroom. What shall I do with all this space?

And don’t get me started on this closet. It’s actually big enough for both of us to use. (It’s actually quite a bit larger than it looks.) We’ve never used the same closet, so this is quite a step in a marriage. Pray for us.

The second bedroom is also quite large. It has two great size windows and a large closet. That strange built-in nook became our master bedroom walk-in-closet.

In both bedrooms, Ryan pulled out all the carpet, replaced windows, patched all walls and ceilings and installed new ceiling fixtures. Then, I painted the walls, ceiling and and trim.

And here’s are little bathroom beauty.

This may be one of my favorite transformations of the house. It was disgustingly dirty and impractical and now it’s light and bright.

So, that’s a year (plus one week) in review. It’s been quite fun sharing the progress, and I hope it’s been fun for you, too. (Or maybe more fun, since you didn’t have to spend the time, effort or money on the projects.)

Still more to do. Still lots to do. Especially outside. But it’s time to celebrate the successes.

And since I get lots of questions about the renovation by email and comment, I thought it would be fun to see if any haven’t been answered. (Check out our first FAQ post here.)

So – What do you think?
and/or
What questions do you have about us or our renovation?
If I get any questions, I’ll try to post responses in the next week.

We share a closet now in our new(ish) house. It’s not the horror story I assumed it would be. As long as Ryan understands he can occupy approximately 6.5% of it, it should be fine. And yeah, the upstairs is looking mighty fine. Fine enough for a nice pair of east coast transplants to live in. Add our baby in the hallway and it’ll be one big happy family. Or an episode of Sister Wives. Yikes.

Like all of the updates especially the red door and the bathroom. Was the bathroom hard to do? We are going to redo our bathroom soon.

    Kim,
You and Ryan have done an amazing job over the last year! It is so much fun to see the before and after photo’s beside each other. Congratulations!

I think the bathroom is my favorite. So bright and airy.

The upstairs is looking 1000 times better! Especially your swoon worthy bathroom transformation. I’m curious to see what you do with the outside. Are you guys planning on painting the house exterior? (and if so, what color?)

I love the floors! They make a huge difference. And you picked great paint colors. It sounds like you’ll be able to have a bigger crafting space now.

So gorgeous!!! And good luck sharing a closet – we shared for our first year of marriage and then moved into this house with 2 separate closets, and I think it might have saved us. 🙂 Just kidding (kind of). My question is – how do you guys find the time? Seriously, a renovation project of this magnitude and quality is just mind-boggling to me!

Wow I am so impressed with you all this house looks great. I just love the red front door it makes the house. Have a drink sit back and enjoy all that you have done!

Um, hi. I want your closet. It’s like, 10,000x the size of mine. Want. I’m also in love with the colors you picked. All of them. Man, it’s amazing what you’ve already done with the house!! That place will be absolutely incredible by the time you’re “done.”

Of course you know I’m going to say I WANT TO MOVE IN – but I’ll hold out for next week that way you’ll be surprised :o)

Dude everything looks amazing when are you moving in?

Looks great. I finally moved all my clothes from the spare bedroom closet to our bedroom closet so this is the first time that we are sharing too 🙂

Do you know yet what you will be doing on the outside? It already looks better than the old picture.

I just love this, Kim. It’s so magical – I know that’s a cheesy word, but that’s exactly what it is to me – to see the transformation going on. It’s amazing what some TLC and elbow grease can do! Here’s to a year of aMAZING progress!!!

[…] Who wants to see the before? This is like something from a horror show. We pretty much ripped everything out before renovating. (You can follow along on our year-long renovation in our weekly progress reports.) […]
