Renovation progress report – week 35

April 7, 2011 by Kim Woodward

Ryan trimmed out all the windows this week. The boy is like the Duracell bunny. We picked the trim boards from Lowes and they were made for the windows.

Pretty white windows.

The window trim is most noticeable in the dining room. Doesn’t the dining room look great?

I really don’t want to paint all those windows. I’m not Duracell-like.

In other news… It’s nearly time for a bubble bath.

(You can ignore the bucket in the tub. A figment of your imagination.)

This bathroom is the thing that dreams are made of. At least my dreams. Don’t you love it when things actually come together the way you hope?

I’ve blocked out the time when I dumped a gallon of white semi-gloss trim paint INSIDE the vanity. I didn’t get any pictures. Bad blogger. I was too busy having a COW. Thank goodness for my calm husband. And the fact that the new tile was covered.

I let the paint dry for three days, and then I just peeled it out. (Tip: Sometimes this works. Sometimes it doesn’t.)
However, this did put my vanity painting a little behind. After the crisis was averted, I painted the exterior in black and then used my free Valspar paint to paint the interior. It cleaned it up really well.

The door is painted, too. But, someone lost the screws in the paint-spilling-madness. It wasn’t me. (It was me.) So, eventually there will be a door.

The side of the vanity was unfinished, so Ryan cut a piece of beadboard to fit, which I painted.

I love every little part of this room.

I am really pleased with the white beadboard on the walls. It’s like a different room. In my opinion, there’s nothing like a crisp, clean white in a bathroom. I love it.

And don’t even get me started on the tub fixtures. Suffice to say I love them.

Thanks to CSN Stores, I was able to pick up the Price Pfister set for a lot less. I’m pretty much obsessed with it. I like the chrome and I love the cross handles. I’m very pleased.

I’m still waiting on the faucet for the vanity. Here’s what I chose.

I originally was coveting the hotel wall-mount medicine cabinet from Pottery Barn. But, at nearly $300, I couldn’t justify it.

Well, I found it’s (evil) twin at Home Depot for $100.

I actually prefer the vintage-looking handle on the Home Depot version.

So, that’s the bathroom, at about 90 percent finished. WOOT!

Here’s the dramatic beginning photo compared to today.

What do you think?

Totally random, but, I was just painting trim & windows in Joseph’s big boy room (yes, at 12:30am) when I thought of you and all the windows you need to paint. You know those adorable little mini rollers that came with the super de duper free valspar samples? Well, I use them to paint mostly flat trim at a fast pace. They are PERFECT for the job. I get the outer edges/corners with a quick trim brush, but I use the rollers for everything else. I just thought I’d let you know. It might aid you in the Duracell-ness.
