Renovation progress report – week 31

March 10, 2011 by Kim Woodward

Ryan is finally back from four weeks on the road. The Woodward household is happy again. Franco and Lola were thrilled to see him. I think they like me alright, but they love Ryan.

I was able to get a lot painted while Ryan was out of town, but I really wanted to get some more done before he saw the house. I was envisioning a Extreme Makeover: Home Edition moment. Sans Ty Pennington. So, I brought in reinforcement.

Meet the A-team. My mother and father-in-law are crazy enough to agree to help me with painting, plumbing, electrical… they are the best.

And, by God, after 31 weeks, my father-in-law installed a brand-spanking-new toilet.
Can I get an A-men?
The guy at Menards told us this is the Cadillac of toilets. We are high class, people. (We covered the tile in paper to protect it. We may take it off eventually.)
Also in bathroom news… I painted the walls a pretty shade of grey – Gravity by Valspar. I knew it was a sign when two blogs I love – Decor and the Dog and Relatively Unique – posted about rooms in this color in the same week.
It’s really pretty in person. Ryan said it may be his favorite color in the house.
My father-in-law also installed the wall sconces in the bathroom.
They look really nice.
In other exciting news, the dining room is painted. My mother-in-law tag-teamed with me. It turned out really well, in my no-so-unbiased opinion.
The wall color is Seal by Martha Stewart, color-matched to Behr Premium Plus Ultra. In person, it’s almost a chalkboard color. But, I like it because it has a brown undertone so it feels warm in person.
The white trim took a coat of primer and four coats of white paint. (I used semigloss on the trim and bottom walls. We will install boards on the bottom to mimic the original board and batten.)

I think this may be my favorite room (for now). I can’t wait for new windows.

So, that was the week in review. Paint, paint, lights and a toilet.

And when Ryan walked through the house, his reaction was totally Ty Pennington-worthy. He was happy with his wife and her crew. And that makes me happy, too.

Here’s the updated house list.

You made some exxxcellent choices in paint colors my friend. I totally didn’t expect that dining room color but I love it long time. And your use of Gravity may have just sold me. I’ve had the paint chip taped to the wall for about 2 weeks now.

How awesome is it to have such awesome helpers too? You’re a lucky gal.

    I love surprising {someone} like that! One year, I had my brother and my dad help me lay sod in our front yard… You should have seen the look on my husband’s face when he drove up. {priceless.}

P.S. Could Ryan look a little more like Mama and Papa Ryan both, please?

Gorgeous. LOVE your dining room color. And as much as I love wood trim, the white looks so crisp and fresh, it was definitely the right choice. 🙂
