Remember that beautiful hexagon tile floor I’ve been gabbing about for the past 2 weeks?

No? Where have you been?
Well, go check out all the dirty details at my guest post on Remodelaholic. I’m super excited to be guest posting again and thankful for the opportunity.
The post walks through the process step-by-step and gives a few of the tips we learned in the process. Our hope is that you are able to get through the process of laying hexagon tile floors without a single moment curled in the fetal position.
Besides loving our new tile floors, I’ve also been in a painting frenzy. I gave myself a little goal to paint the kitchen, dining room, upstairs hall and bathroom within the next few weeks since Ryan is traveling. Ideally, I’d like to also finish with the entry ceiling and repaint the front bedroom since I’m not thrilled with the color. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. 😉
This week, I finished the kitchen walls and ceiling and got a start on the dining room. These are the two largest of the rooms I need to finish, so I’m pleased. If I’d have had a little more time, I think I could have finished the dining room.
Oh well, patience is a virtue, right?
First up, the dining room:
The kitchen has no trim right now, so it went really quickly. I’m really pleased with the kitchen paint color.
It’s the same color as our current kitchen – Silver Sage by RH color matched to Behr. I considered changing it up for about a minute, but I really love this color and think it’s perfect in the kitchen. It’s really a lovely color, although this picture is at 9:30 at night, so it’s not perfect.
I also decided this week that I’m never going to live in a home with textured walls again. Smooth walls are the bomb. The paint goes on so easily. They also take about half the paint of our current plaster walls, so that’s pretty sweet.
I’ve updated the house list for your reading enjoyment.
What do you think?
And, please don’t forget to check out my post over at Remodelaholic.

I am so impressed with the kitchen progress!! It’s such a good feeling to have real walls instead of bare studs!!
I wish we had smooth walls. They texture all the walls here in California. sigh. At least they don’t do popcorn ceilings anymore. Those stink! You’re doing a fabulous job and I still LOVE the tile job in that bathroom. Gorgeous!! 🙂
I totally look forward to these updates every week. It’s nice to see that someone’s being productive! The paint looks great!!
i’m with you on that…textured walls are awful! we had our fair share of sanding in our rooms! we still thank heaven we didn’t get popcorn ceilings 🙂
popped over from Re-Nest – LOVE IT
First, because I have been a bad friend and blogger, I have not commented on that tile yet. And there is not much to say other than…
Love it.
It is amazing and will totally make that room. Which will hopefully make all of Ryan’s angst worth it.
And I love all the painting progress. It is really coming along. I agree with you, when you love a color stick with it.
It’s looking great! you guys are doing SO much work! I’m relieved that most of our reno projects are done!
The tile is wonderful, so glad you went with that pattern! Also, I’m extremely glad I could help you out with the paint-trim-first tip. It really is awesome to just slap it all over and not worry about the walls!
ps – I love Silver Sage.
Niiiiiiicccccccccccccccceeeeeee!!!!
love it!! it’s amazing to see the before and afters.
i had no idea you were on remodelaholic!! that’s fantastic!! going over there right now to read!
ps – give yourself like, a million pats on the back. you deserve it!
Kim! It looks great… things are really coming along quickly now. I’m so impressed with you guys (I think I tell you that every time you put up one of these weekly updates, but I’m serious. You’ve done so much work in such a short time!)
The tile looks absolutely amazing!
Looks great! I’m so impressed you are tackling this all on your own, I’m not that driven or patient…I’m also way to social. I need some paint color suggestions, will be posted later this evening….I know you’re my girl!
It’s looking so great!! I love seeing what paint colors you’re choosing, it’s so fun to find great new colors.
It’s coming along! I’m loving the paint colors!!! 🙂
I am envious of your beautiful smooth walls… le sigh.
The Silver Sage looks amazing, even in the dim lighting! Have you talked about cabinetry yet? Did I miss it? Are you going with painted or wood cabinetry?
Love the kitchen color (my kitchen is a sage as well)!
I read somewhere that greens are bad for kitchens because it doesn’t promote appetite…hasn’t stopped me. 🙂
Yay for progress! I am really digging that Silver Sage color… I need to find a room in our house to paint that color!
And I agree, textured walls are just not as practical. They’re hard to patch and do take forever to paint! I wish we had smooth walls too.
my oh my oh my, kim! the house is coming along so well! i cannot wait to see the finished product.
You go girl! Looking awesome. Loving the color of your kitchen.
Looking good I am impressed how much you are getting done when you husband is out of town. But I guess I have some projects going as well since my husband is out of town for work. I really like the kitchen color nice pick!
I’m thinking about moving in… You know I can paint, hell I’ll even do some yard work :+)
Thanks for this detailed description – I’m just about to tile my bathroom and I can assure you – my walls are definitely not square so this is good info. I feel your pain with the grout cleaning. I used Tile Guard (from Lowes) and it worked pretty well on my more difficult-to-remove grout. Thanks for the tip about tile sealer – I’ll definitely look out for that.
You’re really on a roll Kim! Looks great so far. Keep up the good work.
xoxo,
Kim
lol, once you have kids you may change your tune about the “no more textured walls” thing . . . 🙂
Like the tiles, the paint is looking amazing! It really makes the room “feel” finished right?
I saw your post on Remodelaholic and so felt for you we installed the same type of tile. Killer!! wish we had read yours first.
Ronda
Love the kitchen color! Is the dining room attached? What color are you planning on painting it?
If you have a second, I think it would be great if you could show the readers a floor plan! I know I’m a little confused as to how some of the rooms are set up. Just a thought 😉

I’m always so excited when I realize it is Thursday and you’ll have a house update. The tile floor is so beautiful (congrats on the guest post!) and I’m loving the paint colors you are choosing throughout the house. 🙂
The paint looks great! I agree with not liking textured walls… most of my walls are textured and one room is smooth. I like smooth much better!
I went to my local fabric store the other day… they have a display full of Dr. Seuss fabrics. It made me think of you and your adorable Seuss shower!
Its coming along! I look forward to seeing the updates every week and love the floor!!
