A place for everything….

January 7, 2009 by Kim Woodward

and everything in it’s place.

Better late than never, right?

Back in November, The Hyper Homemaker initiated the Fall Cleaning Challenge. Part of the challenge included taking EVERYTHING out of the cupboards, cleaning them top to bottom, and re-organizing.

I really wanted to do it…

but I didn’t.

Until now..

I spend part of my long weekend cleaning out the kitchen cupboards, scrubbing them down and re-organizing. I spent a good hour at Bed Bath and Beyond finding my perfect organizational weapons. Now, let’s see what I had to work with.

The only cupboards that held food. It was cramped and impossible to find anything.
Before:

After:

(I organized by meal, so the first level has dinner items, second shelf has lunch items, third has snacks and top has coffee, tea, cocoa, and creamers because these are not used often.)

The baking cupboards held an assortment of spices and baking supplies. Since it is up high, most things were impossible to find.
Before:

After:

(I purchased this lovely little miracle worker to allow me to see everything in the cabinet. It doesn’t really allow you to hold more, per say, but it’s great to see all those little spices instead of drowning in the mass. I also moved sugars and flour into clear containers. I took out the cookbooks to put them elsewhere.)

Lastly – the storage containers and bakeware are stored above the sink. Unfortunately, finding matching lids and containers was like finding a needle in a haystack.
Before:

After:

(These wire shelves were perfect to hold our storage containers and keep the different containers separate.)

Hold on to your hats folks, the rest of the cupboards are coming soon…

Wow- great job- I know that cleaning often takes so much longer than it looks like it should. I too wanted to do the homemaker challenge, but have yet to summon the energy. congratulations! everything looks great.

The cabinets look fab, Kim! Nice work. I love those tiered shelf “expanders”, we have some in our pantry for canned goods and it’s wonderful.
