Our living room is feeling extra cozy for the holidays. There’s something special about the glow of Christmas tree lights and the warmth of a fire. And don’t forget all those blankets. Because we need them in December. It’s coooooooold out there.
Our living room really looks a lot different than the last time I shared it here. We got a new-to-us sofa, pulled up a chair from the basement, and added curtains and a new ticking stripe chair. It wasn’t really planned. It started with the new sofa and snowballed from there.
Our tree is in a state of flux here. I hadn’t added any ornaments yet because I was debating what I wanted to do. I didn’t want it to feel perfectly coiffed, because I knew it was too tempting for kids.
In the end, I added our traditional ornaments (glass up top, wood/plastic at the bottom). It looks festive and imperfect and we are all happy. Especially Luce, who grabs and hides the ornaments anytime she can. We’ll be finding them all year.
I also removed a much of the wall decor in the room – choosing only a few of my favorite pieces (and the cuckoo clock, of course). For the time being, the curtains fill a lot of the wall space and I didn’t want it to feel too busy.
But while the room feels different, I don’t think it feels empty by any means. And it still feels plenty festive.
It’s been a good spot to hang out on cold winter days.
The fireplace has been working overtime this year and I’m not mad about it.
Our mantel got decorated with hanging stars, a wreath/tobacco basket, and garland. The Christmas Memories book is a scrapbook/journal from all of the Christmases since we got married.
I also made us new quilted stockings, which fit into the whole scene perfectly. They are homespun and kitschy in the best way. I’ve been wanting to make them for years and finally made time to do it.
Hope you enjoyed the little tour! And I hope your home is also feeling festive and cozy for your family!

I can’t get over how big Henry is getting!! I love the tweaks – isn’t it great when one thing changes and everything else snowballs into an entirely different room?
That tobacco/wreath combo is everything to me! I have been stalking anything wicker/woven lately from yard sales and thrift stores. It has ALMOST replaced my insane hunt for anything brass. The stockings are perfect.
Hope you guys are enjoying the holiday season!
