I’ve always thought garden stools were cute, but can I be frank? Who has the money to spend on these things?
I’m looking at you:
- Pottery Barn. ($159)
- Overstock. ($123.99)
- Target. ($169.49 ON SALE?)
And, although cute, I wondered if they were a bit trendy for my taste. You see, I usually don’t buy things until they have been out of style for at least six years. (Although, maybe garden stools have been around that long… I don’t know.)
Anyhow – imagine my surprise and delight when I saw ceramic stools, almost identical to the Target version, for $20!!! (That’s right, folks. Three exclamation points.)
At Big Lots. Don’t knock it, friends. Big Lots is crazy. Crazy good. But only sometimes. You have to be patient. For those times that you walk in the doors and see 4 different colors of garden stools for $20 each.
And, I won’t judge you if you put 2 of every color in your cart while you decide. (That’s what I did.)
I ended up with only one red and one white. The white one is actually outside in the garden (novel idea).
The red one is perfect in the living room.
And, while at Big Lots, I also picked up some great lights. The round bulbs are for deck lighting (someday) and the vine balls will be pretty on the burlap Christmas tree (although I still need to find an actual TREE since Franco destroyed the last one).
So…
What do you think of garden stools? And Big Lots? And exclamation points?

I just bought 2 boxes of the same lights– I couldn;t believe there were 40 in each–Big Lots rocks-(sometimes)
I like them and think they are cute! I sued to live really close to a big lots, not anymore – and i’m just too lazy to drive over there. I’d love a bright red or yellow one for our front porch
What a good score! I have found random good stuff at Big Lots before, but no home decor. I found our garden stool at the old standby of Homegoods, because I agree with you that they are just too expensive everywhere else. Yours look super cute both inside and out!
I found my garden stool a few years ago at homegoods. I’m shopping for outdoor lights this weekend, but sadly no big lots close by.
I just passed my first Big Lots just recently. You best be believin’ I am headed back!

Hi Kim!
I’ve just stumbled onto you here in blogland! I love exclamation marks! hahaha!
I became intrigued here when you stated that usually you like things to be at least 6 years out of date so they can be “trendy” for you… I couldn’t agree more! I love vintage and rustic finds!
However… your pictures have made my computer sad 🙁 he is sore from loading them now. *pats* hehe
I may have to stop by more often!
Love Kirsty
I have to admit, Big Lots is a little overwhelming for me, however, I love those! And wow, $20 is a STEAL!! Makes me want to check Big Lots out myself!
I absolutely love Chinese garden stools! I bought my turquoise piece at TJMaxx for $30. The red one looks great in your living room!
Gah!! I la la love those stools! I’m totally going out tomorrow in search of one!
I agree with you on Big Lots; it’s totally worth stopping in! Those stools were a steal :).
PS WHAT is Target thinking?!
I saw these at our Big Lots last week, but I didn’t get any… Like you, I have a hard time buying “trendy” stuff and honestly I have no idea where I would put one. But they are sooo pretty and they look amazing in (and around) your house!
I must say I’ve never really given much though to garden stools, but those are really cute! You’re right, Big Lots is kind of hit and miss. I can totally relate to putting two of every color in your cart while deciding… I do that kind of thing all the time.
And I’m a fan of exclamation points!! 🙂
LOVE Big Lots, but haven’t been in awhile. They always have great things for Christmas. I really wanted to buy a beverage stand I saw there a couple of months ago, but I passed it by. What was I thinking?? Love your new garden stools!
I was so sad when the Big Lots here closed. I had scored some good deals there!!
(Confession, I didn’t even know what a garden stool was until this post. Thanks for keeping me up with the times.)
They are all devine! I love the vine ball lights the most 🙂 Beautiful!!!
my target had them on sale a few weeks back for $40 but I just couldn’t justify that but now I think I shall go to my big lots and pick out 2 for that same $40 and call it a day!!
Thanks girlie!
I am a HUGE fan of Big Lots! And exclamation points!! 🙂
I bought a garden stool at Old Time Pottery for $30 – and I thought that was cheap! Might have to stop by big lots this weekend…
Oh wow… I never stumbled upon good deals at my Big Lots so I just never go there. Will have to run in now because I’ve been wanting those stools, too.
And I love love LOVE that wacky cactus on your kitchen windowsill! So cute!!!
I am SO going to Big Lots now.
Oooh I love them…. maybe I need to hit up a big lots near me its been a while!
I love that you put one in your garden. That IS a novel idea! hehe. And I love exclamation points, and Big Lots too. 🙂
I really don’t get why those stools are so gosh darned expensive. Maybe they’re really hard/expensive to make and I just don’t understand? Or is there gold in the paint? Seriously.
Every time I see some in a magazine I fall in love until I check the price. So so sad. I’d love to have one of these to keep by my veggie beds so I could just pull it around when I’m weeding.
Love the string lights, too. I want some in a bad way.
What a find! I saw these at big lots a couple weeks ago. when i saw the price tag i was sure they were plastic. i had to touch them … and they weren’t!! amazing. makes you wonder how these other stores can charge over $100? (makes me mad!)
and what are those cute little plants behind the ball lights on your window?
I LOVE Big Lots and I can’t believe you found those stools for $20 – they are all over the Ballard Designs catalog! Awesome deal!
I big puffy heart Big Lots. I find the best deals there! Great finds!
and again, that couch of yours is gorgeous. 🙂
