Ode to dad

December 15, 2010 by Kim Woodward

You’ve met my dad – papa bear. He’s pretty awesome.

Your thoughts and prayers would be very much appreciated because he will be having open heart surgery today.

I was going back and forth about whether or not to post this, but my dad is so important to me, I just felt compelled to. Without getting into too much detail, it’s been a whirlwind of activity and surprise over the past six weeks, which brings us to today. From a routine annual check up to an operating room.

I’m thankful that papa bear is healthy and young. I’m thankful that this will be taken care of prior to a heart attack. I’m thankful for the doctors and nurses who have been thorough, kind and helpful. I’m thankful for our friends and family who have showered my parents with love, thoughts and prayers.

But, with all that said, it’s still very scary prospect. So your thoughts and prayers for my dad, my mom and the rest of our family are much appreciated.

And, here’s a reminder of a few reasons why papa bear is pretty much the best, as if we need reminding:

He’s a wonderful husband.

He’s an awesome dad and father-in-law.

He’s fun.

He’s handy and smart.

And of course, he’s bad to the bone.

We love you, dad!

I am so behind on writing to you. Many many apologies. This post totally made me tear up though. It really shows what a big part of your life your dad is and how great of a family man he is. And your parents are so young and adorable! I’m so glad that things went well for him but I’m sorry they had to go at all. I hope he’s going strong for Christmas!
