I just can’t stop planting flowers. It’s a sickness.
A beautiful and fun addiction.
My latest project are these upcycled vintage bins that I turned into wall planters. (We think these were probably scoops from the conveyer on a grain elevator.) I picked them up at a local antique/junk store for $20 and they fit perfectly between the batten boards on the barn.
Fate? Obviously.

They actually already had holes for mounting, so Ryan just hung them on the barn with screws.

Then, it was just a matter of adding potting soil and my favorite plants – I chose more sweet potato vines for the bright color and growth.

I think these scoops are so cute – and the rusty finish feels right at home at the barn.

This seating area is starting to come together. It’s already become our new favorite hangout. It’s shaded during the warm days and gets great sun in the early evening. Ryan and I like to come outside after Henry goes to sleep and enjoy the beautiful spring weather and country view.
Side note: We also added some more window boxes back here – which I filled with more plants.
The only downfall to all these containers is all the watering – but it’s worth every second of time for the beauty we’ll enjoy all summer.
What containers have you upcycled for your garden?
Hi, I am enjoying your blog. Can you tell what siding you used for each of your homes and the barn exterior? Thanks!
Our first house was vinyl siding, our second house was aluminum siding that we painted, the barn was reclaimed wood, and the current house was engineered wood siding.
yay–more flowers!
These are awesome. I have a penchant for making planters out of random things. Love it.
How cute are these? I told you it would stop raining once we planted flowers. Note to self for our next house builds. 😉
I hope you are being silly because God knows I’m never building – or moving – again.
It seems anything you touch turns to “fabulous” but I’ve come to expect nothing less. Looks really cute.
love these, kim! they look so perfect on the barn wall! and i love upcycling anything into a planter!
Me, too! So many options!
