Junkin’

April 21, 2010 by Kim Woodward

When my friend, Sarah, asked me if I wanted to go junkin’, I said, “Of course.” When we pulled up to a little roadside gem with an abundance of chairs, wagon wheels and red barns, I was smitten.

We actually had to turnaround and hightail it back to the ATM. But, we did showed SOME restraint.

Here’s me. In all my “oh-my-goodness-look-at-all-this-junk” glory.

My Lord. What was so funny? The fact that I’m wearing the 10-year-old Old Navy sweatshirt again?

No. It’s that orange egg crate. I adore it. I dream about it. It makes me laugh and get the crazies. I’ve been sleeping with it. (Just kidding, although I have considered it.)

I only bought one. I should have bought all 6. But, alas…. that would have broken the budget. I can justify one egg crate (for magazines, for fruit, for flowers, and eventually for real eggs). But, 6?

I also found a flower pot and that milk crate. At least that’s what I think it is. It is in great shape. And, I have an idea for that baby, too. Stay tuned.

There was an abundance of other wire crates and baskets that I may have to go back for eventually.

Sarah found an old kitchen scale (which would actually look perfect in our kitchen so I may be on the lookout for one in the future) and some awesome Pepsi and wooden crates. We were both happy girls.

Do you love junkin’, too?

Technically, it wasn’t a yard sale. It was more like a barn with lots of stuff. Although, yard saling is great, too.

So “junkin” is what the kids are calling yard-sale-ing now? Ha! You are so cute.

I was envisioning you driving through nice neighborhoods and picking up stuff they’ve taken to the curb … which, yes, I’ve done. Maybe you should try that, too! 🙂

Looks like some good finds! I love, love, love junking. I love that even if you only walk away with a few things, it is still totally worth blowing a morning on.

I love junkin too. I’ve been itchin for flea market season to begin!

In the mean time I go to thrift stores to get my junk fix. Last week I hit up 5 in 3 days – crazy, but fun 🙂

I loooove Junking! And I totally stole a yellow egg crate out of my mom’s garage sale last year. I currently do most of my “Junkin” at Caroline’s.

I was telling the guys at work today about how I want chickens – they don’t get it. B doesn’t either. I don’t think I’m going to win the chicken battle, so I hope you do so that I can live vicariously through you.

Ok, so this is the weirdest coincidence. I stopped at my brother’s house this weekend and he tells me he is heading out “junkin”. I immediately make fun of him for the use of the word “junkin”. I thought he meant he was going picking through people’s trash. He informed that while he *is* a fan of trash-pickin’, he meant he was going to garage/yard sales. Either way, I’ve made more references this week to “junkin” than I’ve made in my life.

    And here you are…junkin.

And you’re adorbs! Oh and um, is that basket orange? I want one. for the nursery. Send!

What’s junkin’? Going to an old junk yard? Do they have them in the uk?

Junkin is so much fun. I can never get enough!

Great finds. I love everything you found (the milk crate has me swoony) and the smile on your face says it all!

PS… you have the most contagious smile 🙂

I don’t do it very often, but I love when I find something great. One of my favorite discoveries was an old wine crate to go in my grape-themed kitchen … and two years later, I still get slightly giddy when I think about finding it. 🙂
