A Baby Gap-inspired mustache onesie

June 13, 2013 by Kim Woodward

I have two words for you – Baby Gap.

Two words that make me lose all will and control. The store that makes me forget the word budget.

I love all those baby chinos. And hoodies. And overalls.

Today’s project all started when I got an email from Baby Gap with this picture. (I would link you to the actual shirt, but it appears it isn’t for sale any more. Because everyone snatched them up.)Screen shot 2013-06-09 at 9.52.24 PM

I instagrammed the image above saying that I was in great need of that shirt. But before I could grab my credit card, my friend Kristi at Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries gave me the kick in the pants I needed. She told me that I could make it myself.

And, will you believe it? I did it.

And I made a few other shirts for good measure. I’ll share them all, but let’s start with this one since it really started a chain reaction of crazy cute. Here are all the plain onesies that I had in Henry’s closet.

I already had heat transfer material in white and blue. So it was just a matter of cutting the designs on my Silhouette and pressing them on the onesie.Heat transfer onesie02

It’s so cute I can barely stand it.Heat transfer onesie07

And I think my distinguished little man likes it, too.Custom heat transfer onesies10

Ryan totally asked me to make him a shirt like it, too. That’s a seal of approval.Custom heat transfer onesies09

My little fashion man. Cuter than that homely little Gap baby. (Kidding, folks. That kid just isn’t AS cute as Henry.)Custom heat transfer onesies08

I mustache you … do you love it?

hahahaha. I love the shirt and the last line of this post.
I just got Kevin a burger wearing glasses and a mustache T shirt from Children’s Place. It’s so cute I can’t stand it.

Both your baby and the onesie are cuter than ones in the Gap ad—and I am a die-hard Gap fan. Thanks for sharing and inspiring! ; )

Kim! This is adorable! Where did you get your heat transfer vinyl? The only kind I have used peeled off almost immediately- I would love to make a girlie form of this adorable shirt!

Kevin and I are running a Father’s day 5K called the Must-Dash 5K. I think I need a toddler wearing that onesie to push for the race!

Maybe in a few years. 🙂

Awesome! I made my Henry a mustache t-shirt using the old fashioned method of freezer paper…me thinks I need a silhouette machine!

Gap will be calling for Henry any day now. Auntie Michelle might be biased but he is one of the cutest kids on the block.

Your Henry is adorable! I love his mustache onesie. I mustache you a question… Have you seen the children’s book Mustache Baby? I think you would enjoy it. Actually, a mustache onesie and the book would make a super cute baby gift.
    I reviewed the book here.

Adorable! I’m not really clear on the why of the moustache trend, but it’s super-cute on Henry.

Also, anytime I hear “I mustache you” a question, I crack up laughing. I love a good pun. I saw a meme on FB the other day with a baby koala and a baby elephant and it said something along the lines of “Your koalifications are irrelephant”. Hahaha! Just thinking about it now is making me giggle.

OMG so cute Kim!!! I made a mustache shirt for my nephew a month or two ago — I hated the product I used. It was a printable iron-on fabric paper and it was cute for about an hour until he found an edge and ripped it off cause it was “broken”. HAHA 😉 I’m convinced now that I need a silhouette machine — so stinkin CUTE!! 🙂 And Henry is definitely cuter…. IMHO anyway!

SO cute! I’ve made a couple of shirts for Hudson with freezer paper and fabric paint. This project makes me think I just *need* a silhouette machine!

SO cute! Henry is so adorable. I want to snuggle him. And the onesie is darling! Is the name shirt coming up soon?! Along with a little ‘buy now’ button for me? 🙂

I love it! What a cute DIY. Please make Ryan one and make them match. The picture would be classic. Definitely something that you would put in Henry’s senior slideshow.

If you ever decide to sell these, let me know! I’ll be one of the first in lines for a name shirt like Henry’s! Also, he is much cuter than the Baby Gap baby!

You rocked it, Kim. I am going to challenge you more often! And the thought of Henry and Ryan in that exact shirt is priceless! Can’t wait to see what else you came up with.
