Green you!

February 4, 2009 by Kim Woodward

If you are at all interested in my little meat, sugars and caffeine de-tox, you should read this book. I was reading it as I went through the process and it really made me keep going. Lots of appalling information about the chemicals in our food and the pollution caused by meat production. While I’m not going to stop eating meat forever, it helped me put into perspective just how much should be in my diet.

Greening You: Volume 3 in the Bestselling Green This! Series (Green This!) Greening You: Volume 3 in the Bestselling Green This! Series by Deirdre Imus

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars
To be fair – I skimmed some of the book, but I enjoyed it overall. I see this more as reference material than leisure reading. I checked it out from the library but plan to purchase an e-copy to reference.

If you are at all interested in greening your life, this book is a great reference. While I think that the author is more extreme than I could ever commit to, the premise that there are many things that we should avoid in foods, personal care products, fashion and medicine is something that is easy to agree with. She backs up her arguments with lots and lots of facts. Lots…..and……lots…..of…..facts.

While I appreciate this, it got a little lengthy in parts (really the reason it got a 4 in my mind). The most interesting parts to me where the areas where she gave you green shopping tips and lists. It will make it easier to change items in my diet, medicine cabinet and makeup bag. This book will make it easier to change one item at a time.

There are quite a few other recipes, including the tasty Three-Bean salad.

There is tons great information in this book and it’s certainly a great read if you want to learn more about the chemicals in our lives and how to green ourselves. Be prepared for a wake-up call. Nothing is really safe. =/
