Gratuitous pat-on-the-back post

September 3, 2010 by Kim Woodward

The rain garden has just gotten better and better. It’s really a nice place to hang out in the yard. The flowers are a little messy, but it’s a great place to sit with the dogs. It is really the only place in the backyard with shade, which helps, too.

And, we got a lovely surprise when we learned we were chosen for an award from our city for this very rain garden. (I’m currently patting myself on the back.)

(You may remember, this garden was built through a city program for rain gardens.)

As a person who thrives on gold stars and certificates, it felt really good to receive this letter. We will get our official certificate at a city council meeting. I think that’s kinda cool!

And, the letter happened to come only two short weeks after we learned we were nominated by our neighbors and received an award from the city for a home beautification award. (Our city has an annual “Tell on Your Neighbor” award.)

How cool is that?

This is amazing, and so inspiring. Seriously- the colors, charm, the effort that you put into it (new to your blog- came over from Claire’s lovely blog:), but read your past posts regarding the garden), and the program in general “paint” a great picture of what you can do with hard work, creativity, and resourcefulness.

Congrats! I am so thrilled for you! Isn’t it great when somebody recognizes how hard you’ve worked?

I never noticed what a difference taking off the porch made.
