Flower Boxes and other curb appeal progress

May 28, 2009 by Kim Woodward

We are slowly but surely getting the outside of our home spruced up. We finally got our window boxes up on the side of the house. I planted some various annuals so hopefully they will take well in full sun.

(PS. The window boxes were cedar boxes from Menards that I picked up for $8 on sale. We drilled holes in the bottom for drainage.)

You can see that some of the plants in the ground are going crazy.
Salvia
Mums (? I think?)
Roses (I know)
Plus, my hydrangea and hostas are coming back in the front of the house. They (as in the gardening gods) say you cannot kill hosta – you can, and I have. It’s a gift. But, this one looks pretty good so far.

But, while I love all the plants – I have to admit, I’ve been seriously coveting some peonies. They are popping up like crazy around here. I’m getting a sudden urge to sneak into some stranger’s yard and cut off all the blooms and bring back to my house so I can admire them.
Instead of doing this, I decided that I will just plant a plant or two this year so I can have my own blooms next year. No need to resort to criminal behavior. Right?

I’m so jealous. I kill everything green I get my hands on. Everything looks amazing. Send some of your good luck my way. I really need help with plants.

What, digging up your neighbors peony plants is a crime?

Wait, I think I learned something about that in law school…

Love the window boxes – it’s the little things that make life sweet, and so pretty !

I want peonies too but I don’t have a good spot for them…maybe next year when we take care of the backyard.

We got some hostas from our neighbors and I’m shocked that they’re thriving in our might-as-well-be-100%-clay soil. I’m SUPER jealous of your hydrangeas. I want some BADLY. I’m also coveting peonies right now. So pretty!!

The window boxes are going to be fabulous when those flowers mature – I love love love your house. I’m trying to find the windowboxes of my imagination right now with little success, but seeing ours makes me want to hurry this along!
