Coming clean

January 28, 2011 by Kim Woodward

It’s the last week of Jenny at Words on Wendhurst’s 111 Things in 1/11. All good things must come to an end. If I kept this up, we’d be living in a cardboard box with nothing but a change of clothes and a laptop.

When Jenny asked me to join in December, I have to admit that I wondered whether I could find 111 things to get rid of in one month. Boy! 111 was the tip of the iceberg!

For the last week, I combed through my drawers and closet. I actually purged in the fall, so I didn’t have a ton of things. But, it was definitely more than expected.

The socks and undergarments went into the trash. The clothes and purse went to Goodwill.

I also purged some jewelry. All the jewelry went to Arizona Lainey. I got rid of the few things I know I haven’t worn, even if I like it. It’s crazy to keep things I don’t wear.

Here’s what’s left. Just getting rid of a few makes it look so much neater.

I also went through my bathroom ‘stuff’ and threw away everything that was old or unused by me.

More than I expected.

So, after this, I ended up purging:
2 old hairsprays
1 old shampoo
1 volume spray
14 makeup items/cleansers/eye creams that were out-of-date
2 makeup bags
1 bag of bobby pins
7 hair clips
16 various undergarments
2 blazers
1 sweater
1 eye cream
1 jewelry box
2 pairs of earrings
13 necklaces
(64 items purged this week)

Overall, I purged 184 items in January. Wow!

It’s most sad that there’s lots more that still needs to be purged.

What did you purge this month?

This must have been the week to get rid of old hairsprays…I think Emily did too. I’m such a stickler when it comes to makeup and “product”…if I can’t remember when I bought it, it’s gone. And I’m so afraid of germies going in my eyes from mascaras and brushes and whatnot that I toss em all the time. And might I say, that is one impressive necklace collection. I wanna come play dress up now.

Isn’t it so refreshing to just get rid of stuff!? We’ve been on a purging binge this month too. If only I thought to count it all!

feels awesome, doesn’t it? I once did a declutter 365 items in 365 days challenge…I didn’t think I’d be able to do it, but I did!

I really need to clean out the house. The husband and I are looking at houses and hoping to find one we love very soon and I do not want to have to carry all this crap with me! 🙂 Moving is hard enough w/o all the extra junk. So I told him that my mission over the next few weeks is to purge our house of unneccaries.

Sorry for the stupid question. What is the best search engine http://google.com or http://yahoo.com?

I really bad about getting rid of makeup. I know it grows germs but yet I can’t throw out a mostly full eyeshadow.

You go, girl! 😉 I won’t even tell you how horrible it was under our bathroom sink. Okay, it was pretty bad. I trashed all the old Cinique samples that I knew I wasn’t going to use or were too old, and I donated the cute make-up bags that I liked but never used. I also got rid of some old baby toys!

I am such a pack rat when it comes to jewelry. I can’t get past the mentality of “but I might want it some day…”

Two more months till we move (hopefully) and then I am going to purge SO many things. I can. not. wait.

Great job! It’s always amazing what you can find to purge. And thanks, you’ve reminded me that this weekend is my last chance to participate in 111 in 1/111 again. I think you’ve just inspired me to tackle my tangled jewelry boxes, purge, and give them a new home. Jewelry boxes are just too impractical for organization.

love the jewelry shelf/hooks… I need to be more creative on how to display my jewelry cause I forget what I have and get tired of looking…. guess maybe I should purge out some of the old stuff!

Pitching stuff is the greatest, is it not? There’s something about winter that makes it easier…maybe it’s because we’re stuck INSIDE with ALL our stuff!! If I could convince my kids they don’t need toys my house would look awesome!! LOL You did a great job Kim!!

Nice job! I can’t believe how much stuff we have all gotten rid of. 🙂 Isn’t it such a great feeling? Thanks so much for participating. 🙂 You’re the best!
