Clean as a whistle

October 17, 2008 by Kim Woodward

Where did that phrase come from anyhow?

I have a cleaning issue.

I like a clean house. Our house usually looks pretty clean, I vacuum and wipe off counters and such.

But, I wait until I need to clean for something (a person coming over, etc.) before I really clean. And, by this point, I have to do everything top to bottom.

Which means that I have to spend several hours cleaning everything from sinks to the stove to the light fixtures to baseboards. I hate it….

I did this today. I thought that Ryan’s family may stop by this weekend while they are in town. So, I thought I’d clean. But, I realized how bad everything needed cleaned. So, by the time I was done, I was sick.of.cleaning.

Which begins the vicious cycle again.

I hate cleaning, so I only do the minimum. Then I spend hours cleaning the house top to bottom when I have to. Then I hate it…

I really need to work on doing a little at a time. Should I start a schedule?

I need cleaning advice…. how do you handle it?

eesh, baseboards rarely get cleaned, i dont think about it!
i just clean the bathrooms & kitchen and straighten up the living room every weekend, that way it’s not SO much. i dust before important people come over (i.e. the parents/inlaws, which for us living 700 miles away isnt that often)

i remember my mom having a big day each season that she cleaned top to bottom (she’s a VERY clean lady, our house is always spotless) so maybe once every 3 months you can set aside a day to do it that way you dont have 6-12 months to clean up in one day! or maybe once a month if you’re already trying once every quarter and it’s that overwhelming…

I really don’t have too much advice because I am kinda a neat freak that drives her family crazy but I try to do something everyday or a room everyday. BTW very cute blog i love pugs and your calzone recipe is something I will try this weekend!

    Have a great weekend!

I enjoy cleaning, so this is probably no help at all, but Dusty and I have our own jobs. Every weekend he dusts and vacuums, and every weekend I clean the kitchen (wipe it down) and the bathrooms (wipe them down). When you wipe everything down once a week, it isn’t as hard to clean it for company to come over.

I’m with you on this one!! I do the same thing. Have you seen flylady.com? She sets up cleaning schedules with “zones” that a few of my friends swear by. I might check it out…

This is me to a ‘T’ — I hate it also. I wish I had some advice but I don’t, the only solution I see is hiring a cleaning service 🙂

    Sigh.
