The big kahoona – The pantry! BIG REVEAL

January 8, 2009 by Kim Woodward

So, I see some beeeeeea-utiful pantries in the cyber world.

But, alas – we had no space for a pantry, or so we thought.

Then, I saw this pantry at Ikea Hacker.

I thought to myself… this looks kinda like our pathway to the dungeon (basement).

So – I forwarded the link to Ryan. And, he ignored it (clearly). Until, I bugged him about it for weeks.

Then, he started listening. And, finally conceded to build the shelves for his wifey. He re-used wood that he tore out of the basement, so it was a FREE pantry for us!!!

This was after the shelves were built and after paint.

Then, we added a little more storage on the un-used door. This is the perfect place for trash bags, tin foil, and cleaning supplies. The pantry easily stores all of our extra items that don’t fit in the pantry. How did we ever do without it?

Voila!

Be still, my beating heart. My dream of a pantry has come to fruition.

No way, great minds think alike, huh? Or rather, great minds get inspired alike! How fun. I’m glad I found your blog, you have some wonderful projects and a very entertaining way of writing. I was cracking up over the vacuum debacle!

    LOVE this idea!! Great job!

After being in Hong Kong now for a couple days I am only now realizing just how lucky we are in the US to have so much space!

Wow! That’s fantastic! It looks like you’ve really been busy organizing! I wish we had enough room in our stairway to the dungeon for this! We have a small pantry in our kitchen, but it would be so much more helpful if we could do this. Where did you get the storage rack on the door from?

That’s so cool, and a fantastic use of space! I love it!

I once went to a house where there was a drawer under each step leading down to the basement (like, the front of the step was also the front of a drawer with a recessed handle). That is now my new dream storage idea! But, um… I’m not sure it’s as feasible as your idea.

that is so awesome. Jen at thousand words just did shelves in her basement stairway too and I totally want to copy this idea. It is perfect for peeps who don’t have walk-in pantries!

    Thanks for sharing!

Oh wow. You two have outdone yourselves, what an awesome idea. And really, those magazine pantries are SO unrealistic.
